Celebrity Classic Car Collectors

You have to wonder what emotions drive the collectors to amass their car collections. Is it their passion for the beauty of cars? Is it an investment similar to collecting art? Perhaps it's the hunt tracking rare vehicles. At any rate, classic cars are a thing of beauty, expensive, and need constant care.

These are collectors that can afford to buy the best and rarest. They have dedicated searchers. They love discussing cars and mechanics to anyone who will listen.

If you ever watched theTV show The Pickers starring Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz, you are aware that in their quest for that unique find, they have on occasion found a rare jewel usually in some dirty, dusty barn.

One of their rarest finds was a 1935 Auburn Phaeton 653, and another was a 1914 Merz Cyclecar. Mike is incredibly knowledgeable about bicycles and motorcycles. He knows a gem when he finds one. His rarest motorcycle find was a 1922 Ace Motorcycle. His discoveries aren't always 'pretty' when found, sometimes looking like real junk.

License and Insurance

There are many rules and regulations when it comes to classic, vintage, and antique cars. Each state has its own rules and how they determine the class for registering. Usually, a classic car is 25 years, but Florida sets its year at 30. The restrictions may limit the use, such as where you can drive the vehicle. Will it be used only for club car events, in a parade, or to an auction. Milage will also be limited, again, usually no more than 250 miles from your home.

Insurance companies will also vary depending on such things as will the car only be garaged, never driven, and what is it's value. So it is essential to check with your state and insurance company. You do not want to violate the laws and end up with a ticket.

Bill Gates, who founded Microsoft, sold it, and now he and his wife are philanthropists and believe in giving back to charitable foundations. He does, however, have a few collectible classic cars. He loves the German lines of cars and has at least three of them listed here

I enjoyed your Hub and the pictures of the classic cars. I have a friend who collects cars, though not of the same price range as the celebrities shown above. He enjoys it quite immensely though.
