Installing Altezza Taillights on Your Magnum
The installation process of aftermarket Altezza-style taillights on the 2005-2008 Dodge Magnum is an incredibly simply affair. Almost no tools are required and a total of three fasteners need to be removed. However, as with any aftermarket accessory you need to prepare yourself and take the necessary safety precautions.
Please be sure to turn off the car and park it on a flat surface. You do not ever want to be working behind a car on an incline. In addition, please wear safety wear safety equipment such as goggles and work gloves to prevent injury.
On a final note, you may want to spread an old sheet or work mat next to or behind the vehicle as a staging area for installation and removal of the lights. Having done so you will make certain that you do not scuff or otherwise damage the taillights.
Recommended Installation Tool
The one and only tool that we recommend for use during installation is a trim pad remover. This tool is like a miniature crowbar with a screwdriver-like handle and can be used to remove the two plastic clips that hold the taillight to the vehicle.
Step 1: Open Trunk
As silly as it may at first seem you do, in fact, need to open the trunk. This guide wouldn't be complete if we left out steps so please bear with us.
Step 2: Remove Two Clips
Remove the two plastic clips that hold the taillight to the vehicle. These clips are visible immediately upon opening the trunk and can be removed with the trim pad tool.
Step 3: Remove Plastic Cover from Behind Taillights
Inside the trunk on either side behind the taillights you will see what appear to be plastic vents. Remove these vent doors and lift the carpet to reveal a large plastic screw.
Step 4: Locate Plastic Screw
In this step you will lift up the carpet which allows you to get access to the large, black plastic screw which is the last fastener attaching the taillight to the vehicle.
Step 5: Remove Plastic Screw
Remove the plastic screw by hand.
Step 6: Remove Taillight
Gently remove taillight. Pull it out slowly and just enough to reveal the harness connections.
Step 7: Unplug Harness
Step 8: Remove Wires from OEM Light
Remove the wires from OEM lights.
Step 9: Install Wires on New Taillight
After you have removed the wires from the stock light remove the upper bulb from the OEM wires so that it can be plugged into the LED connection on the Altezza light.
Step 10: Reconnect Harnesses
Place pelay on inside under taillight and connect harnesses.
Step 11: Place Aftermarket Light in Stock Location
Install aftermarket Altezza taillight in the stock location.
Step 12: Replace Two Plastic Clips
Replace the two plastic clips.
Step 13: Replace Screw
Replace hidden, inner screw.
Step 14: Replace Carpet and Plastic Door
Push down carpet flap and snap in plastic door.
Step 15: Check All Lighting Before Driving
Final systems check. Be sure to test all lights before driving.
