Safe ATVs & Dirt Bikes for Kids
My family goes camping at least four or five times a year.
As our kids got older, it was inevitable to consider buying them an electric four wheeler or bike.
These are really fun devices for children that are interested in them and show an aptitude for them.
Granted, moms often get a bit nervous while their children are on devices such as these, however they can teach your children self-confidence, balance, develop motor skills, as well as responsibility.
Not just for camping, though these types of electric vehicles for children can be used on farms and ranches, or anywhere where there is some open space.
Four Wheeler’s Versus Dirt Bikes
So which one is best for your child?
This can be something that is hard to know from the get go.
I believe that it comes down to how much mobility and maneuverability your kid wants and how much stability they want.
If you want an ATV, you will have more stability but less ability to maneuver.
Dirt bikes are great for those who want to be able to move around a lot more and squeeze into tight spaces on on smaller paths. You will most likely have more power also.
Purchasing a Quality ATV for Kids
These have come quite a long way in terms of safety and price.
You can expect to pay around $400 for an electric four wheeler for kids.
Your children will need to understand that a vehicle like this is not a toy and you should use it as an opportunity to teach them how to properly care for it.
Benefits of Electric ATVs
These are lightweight units that don't usually hit high speeds. A benefit to an electric machine is that there is no exhaust to have to worry about, and they usually only require light maintenance.
These are typically made with one or more batteries that power the motor. They are quite similar to gasoline powered four wheeler's except electric ones are smaller and white lighter, as well as more quiet.
Another benefit is that the batteries can be recharged so you never have to worry about replenishing and purchasing fuel. However, you should be advised that these will not run quite as long before the batteries will need to be recharged.
Best Electric & Gas Quads for Kids
1. Razor Dirt Quad Electric Four-Wheeled Off-Road Vehicle
A Great Choice for Younger Kids
If you have a younger child that wants an ATV, this electric quad will be an amazing choice. It comes with a good amount of power but not too much for younger kids.
Check out this Razor Dirt Quad Electric Four Wheeled Off Road Vehicle. It is powered by a high torque variable speed 250 watt electric motor and has enough high torque gear ration for climbing abilities.
You Don't Have to Buy Additional Parts
It comes with a charger and all tools needed. A 12 hour charge time gives you about 30-40 minutes of use. I have noticed with light use on flat surfaces that we can squeeze about 45-50 minutes out of the battery.
I think you will appreciate that this has rubber tires instead of plastic ones like the other ATV we reviewed. The only drawback I noticed is that it is a bit smaller in size than I anticipated.
2. 110cc Four Wheelers 6" Tires Atvs
In the same price point as the other, this 110cc Four Wheelers ATV comes with a 4 stroke 110cc air cooled engine.
These tires are plastic so they will not perform as well as the Razor but it seems to function decently enough for our kids. I love the remote control shut off which gives me more control when they are riding. I recommend this for a beginning rider.
Electric Dirt Bikes vs. Gas Dirt Bikes for Kids
Many electric dirt bikes are made to be lightweight so children can more easily maneuver them.
They can be more expensive than gas powered ones, but they are a lot easier to take care of.
They can be a more difficult to upgrade when needed, however since they are cheaper, it makes a good purchase to try out to see if your child is even interested in riding it.
Gas Dirt Bikes Have Many Limitations
These are also good options for places where loud gas powered dirt bikes are not allowed. A lot of neighborhoods and nature reserves are sticklers about excess noise.
Even though batteries do not last quite as long as a gas powered dirt bike does, you can easily carry multiple batteries with you and swap one out as needed.
Top Dirt Bikes for Kids Electric & Quad
3. Razor MX350 Dirt Rocket Electric Motocross Bike
The least expensive here is the Razor MX350 Dirt Rocket Electric Motocross Bike. For a cheap bike, this is really quite and handles itself quite well.
It goes up to 12 miles per hour and has a hand operated brake. I love that you can get 10-12 hours out of a battery charge! I was surprised that it is smaller than it seems but still works for most children.
4. Razor MX650 Dirt Rocket Electric Motocross Bike
A Fast Dirt Bike for Experienced Kids
If you want to invest in a higher quality bike, consider this Razor MX650 Dirt Rocket Electric Motocross Bike. This goes a bit faster than the MX350 at 17 miles per hour.
This bike is recommended for children 16 years of age or older since it goes faster and feels more like a real bike. It has a powerful 650 watt electric motor as well.
The minor assembly required was quite easy and user friendly. I suggest not pushing this bike too hard since it does seem to not be able to handle racing and hard abuse, though trail riding and backyard riding seems to be okay.
5. Apollo Dirt Bike 250cc Agb-36
Loaded with All the Bells and Whistles
If you’ve got the cash to drop, this New Apollo Dirt Bike 250cc Agb-36 is more professional for older children that are ready to take dirt biking seriously. It comes with a remote start and tool kit.
There is some assembly with this bike but it wasn’t too complicated. This device will go up to 77 miles per hour and has great climbing abilities. The manual transmission and driveline chain drive wheel make it very easy to use.
