The undead are a huge hit in pop culture, with the trend having strong legs and no hint at this time that the popularity of zombies will wane anytime soon.
Consequently, that means we get to continue to be treated to some very cool zombie art and cosplay, with digital art offering a plethora of fantastic illustrations, clip art, and wallpapers for fans of zombies and zombie art to enjoy.
Within the overall zombie theme are many secondary themes that are part of the genre, and in this article we'll look at zombie art that feature cowboy zombie images.
Along with the art there are a couple of photos of people wearing zombie costumes, including one of a zombie attacking a temporary human. Both are great and give an idea of what someone could do with cosplay and other costumed events.
I've also included a piece of zombie clip art to show the cartoon look that some like to see and share with others or include with some of their blogs and websites.

Black and White Cowboy Zombie Illustration
I really like illustrations done solely in black and white, and this one of a cowboy zombie look great.
The environment the image is set in works very well for the subject matter, with the mist creating an ominous atmosphere, including the blurred building in the background. Also nice is the way the fog swirls around the legs of the undead cowboy.
The tattered cloak, dark look, skeletal body, and the inclusion of a couple of pistols finish off a very cool zombie scene.
Zombie Cowboy Costume
Next is a pretty cool looking zombie costume, with the highlight being the very good mask. That is the key to the entire zombie look being created. If you get the mask or face right, all you have to do with the rest is add elements that complement the face.
This is why zombies are such great choices for costumes, as you can get the face and then wrap any theme around it you choose to; in this case that of a cowboy.
What that does is identify what type of person was attacked by the undead and turned into what you see.
While this is a great zombie look as far as the head goes, I would have done a couple of things differently. First, who has ever seen a credible zombie with clothes that aren't tattered and torn? It's almost like this guy didn't want to be seen with something out of place. He's too clean. Some wear and tear and holes in the clothes would have been much more realistic and interesting.
Finally, the bullet holes are also disappointing. They easily could have been made much more realistic. But again, I think he was thinking of not ruining his clothes, so went with this safer look.
All one has to do is get out some really old or worn clothes you don't care about, or go to a yard sale or friend that may have some old work clothes that would fit the purpose.
Nonetheless, the zombie face helps overcome much of that, and surely delighted those seeing it.
Zombie Taking Bite out of Neck of Victim
For those that may want to surprise and shock people at a costume party, working together to create an awesome effect like the one below of a cowboy zombie taking the bite out of a living human, looks fantastic.
It takes some know how and skill, but putting together a piece on the neck that can be bitten into in a realistic way really catches people off guard and makes people wonder if some wacko hasn't shown up. I would definitely recommend this among friends and family you know.
And for those that may not have a lot of skill at this, you could have a person wear a shirt that has a high neck and place the makeup on the neck below in a way that you could pull back the shirt and bite into it before people notice the place you put the makeup.
There is no doubt if you do it right you'll get a few shrieks followed by much nervous laughter after you've completed your acting together.
Be sure to get someone that will be able to grimace in apparent pain and agony. Practice a couple times to get it right without the actual makeup on to see how it looks. Do a video tape to get a good idea of how it'll look when doing it in front of people.
Zombie Clip Art
Digital clip art is a very flexible piece of work that can be used in all sorts of situations, including emails, blogs, websites, and social networking communications, among other areas.
Funny zombie cowboy clip art like the one below is perfect for including in humorous situations or when wanting to get someone to get a good laugh.
What is terrific about this one is the torn up clothes and the over sized hat which make it an enjoyable image that could be shared with others.
Fighting Zombies from a Stagecoach
The next couple of cowboy zombie works of art are typical images that one would expect to see in reference to the old west, with the exception of course of the zombies surrounding this stagecoach as it attempts to weave its way safely through the zombie pack.
It's very cool to see the way the men are on the stage shooting down on the zombie hoard as they attempt to surround and overcome them.
The background, lightning, and detailed cowboy zombies makes this a fantastic work that any zombie fan would appreciate.
Super Gunfighter Killing Zombies Art
Finally there is this amazing and action-packed work of a magnificent gunfighter battling it out with a bunch of zombies.
The number of undead lying about testifies to the skills of this fearless fighter.
When an artist is able to create the sense of action in a static work of art, I think that artist has a tremendous gift, and that's the case in this drawing, where you can almost feel the action as you look at it, and are almost convinced it's video rather than a still picture.
As for the subject matter, I really like the look of the gunfighter, especially that awesome hat he's wearing.
You get the feel he's trying to take care of business close at hand quickly because of the zombies carrying the guns who appear about to open fire on him.
I also like the silhouette of the moon as a backdrop to the cowboy, as it highlights who is obviously the star of this particular show.
When it comes to cowboy zombies, you never know what you're going to see, including these where you could be the zombie, or you could be a zombie killer.
Either way it's a lot of fun, and I think the reason people relate so well to zombies is they can picture themselves as one or the other.
Whether zombie art or a zombie costume, and even a film or TV show with a zombie theme, it seems we are still a ways away from getting tired of seeing the undead in various stories, and so that almost certainly ensures us that we'll still be able to enjoy them for some time into the future, as artistic people draw, paint, and use them as major characters in a wide variety of story lines.
As a fan of quality zombie stories, hopefully it will continue on. And if anyone's listening, having some cowboy zombies would be a great way to add some variety to the stories, which seem to becoming too much the same. I for one would welcome a good western zombie film or TV series.

Interesting article. I'm a dedicated horror fan. It is true the Zombie audience is growing and becoming more stable. This is probably due to the horror genre as is currently reflected on television and video games. In the past, you had to go to the movies to be exposed to the flesh eaters. Now, with series like, "The Walking Dead" and video games, such as "Plants vs Zombies," people can experience the Zombie phenomena right in their own homes. However, your article was the first introduction, for me, to the culture as an art. Never really thought about it in the artistic form. Thank you for sharing.
