A dreamer and sometimes a loner

Believe in a better world

People have referred to me as a dreamer because I always think that things will improve and try to avoid negative thinking. I have faith in people and want to think that the world will get better every day, no matter how bad things may seem. Of course, sometimes I've hit the wall but I just move forward.

I've been through good and really bad situations during my life but I don't complain; I take them all as a learning experience and smile. Whatever happened, these situations have given my life direction and led me to be the person I am today.

Among other things, compassion is one of the words that lead my life. It is my motto and code of conduct.

Love reading and one of my favorite books is "The Art of Happiness" by the Dalai Lama

As you already know, photography is my passion, you will always see me with a camera in my hand.

Writing, I always write in English or Italian, even on my daily planner.

I have a couple of books in progress, as soon as they are ready, I will tell you more about them. I first started writing novels when I was thirteen or so. I started writing the second one in Greece, my heart’s home. A mix of fantasy, romance, mysticism and history

Besides these hobbies, music is paramount in my life, I love playing guitar and listening to music all day long, I enjoy moments of silence and solitude.

One thing I regret and confess: I don't listen to or know many songs in Spanish but working on it.

Every morning I pray and meditate, this is one of the most important moments before starting my day.

My friends mean the world to me and I treasure them dearly. When I call someone my friend, I say it from the bottom of my heart and give the best of me. As someone once said:

Traveler: adventurer and explorer

Love traveling and since childhood, first due to my father's work and then mine, I have been able to travel to many different countries. Now as a grown up I keep traveling and my life goes between Vancouver and Mexico. I travel to other countries as often as possible as well.

History is another favorite and I consider myself an enthusiast because it helps us understand who we are and gives us identity.

I would love to explore and discover every country in this beautiful world. I think that wherever we go, the world has something beautiful to offer and from which we can learn.

We just need to keep our eyes wide open.

Speaking six languages has allowed me to communicate with all kinds of people in different countries. I can learn more about their cultures by listening to them and looking at the way they live.

A very pleasant and fulfilling experience.

One day, a few years ago while traveling by myself (something I love doing), and working in Nafplio (Ναύπλιον), Greece, I met some fishermen who were unloading their fish for the day.

I started talking to them; they didn't speak English or any other language besides Greek. They told me inspiring stories about their families and life and then they shared their breakfast with me which consisted of fish and bread. It was a very pleasant and fulfilling experience.

I will be moving to Greece or Italy within the next couple of years, I'm looking forward to it

A Greek Heart

Where am I from?

You might be wondering where I am from. Well, I am a "salad". I often refer to myself with this term because I'm part Spanish, French, Italian, and a few other mixes in between. As I mentioned above, I keep traveling between Canada and Mexico. Love both countries as much as Italy, Spain and France but my heart is Greek. Why? I really don't know

A little story:

When I was still a toddler, without any reason (apparently), I got excited whenever I heard the word Greece or anything related to it. Listening to the sound of the bouzouki, a string mandolin like, Greek instrument gives me the chills and it often makes me cry.

Then when I was 11, I learned to read Greek all by myself and then learned the language in 3 months without even attending a Greek school. Let me tell you that nobody in my family speaks Greek and didn't even know anyone in Greece back then.

Someone told me that maybe I was Greek in a previous life. Do you think this is possible?

My Work

Rewarding Experiences

Throughout the years I've worked on several projects besides photography.

The two most rewarding as a learning experience were the '98 World Expo in Lisbon, Portugal and then in 2001 working at the Cumbre Tajin Cultural Festival, an annual festival at the archaeological site of Tajin in Veracruz, Mexico.

The pyramid on the left is called the "Pyramid of the 365 Niches".

I have been working as a freelance writer and language translator. My main job is as an online tech support for several sites. If you ever need help, please let me know.

I've worked for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs helping foreign investors translating legal documentation.
Have translated religious books for the Vatican as well.

Besides these projects I have also done some acting and stunt driving for TV commercials.

Rallies? Yes! I have been a rally racer as well

Malu Couttolenc: Photographer

The photographer behind The Little Card Shop is Malu Couttolenc

I've loved photography from a very young age. I learned more techniques and tips at the university during my bachelor's degree. As I mentioned bore, wherever you find me, I will have a camera with me. If I can't take my regular DSLR camera, I will take a little point and shoot or use my cell phone camera. I don't want to miss anything. I've regretted the times I didn't have a camera with me.

My favorite images are landscapes and travel photography. Oh if I see arches, windows, signs or paths, I will get a photo for sure.

I also love taking photographs at car shows, rallies and car races, besides doing it as a part of my job. I've participated in rallies myself and it is really exciting.

My photographs have been published in car magazines among other media and public spaces.

You can also find me at my online stores at RedBubble and Zazzle.

Your photography is always beautiful Malu! I have yet to see one of your photos that I don't love. You truly have an eye for beauty and I believe that is because you, yourself are beautiful. You truly might well be the kindest, gentlest person I have meant on Squidoo. You are an inspiration and a calm presence during a storm :) Thank you for sharing so many details about yourself, but I really did already know you; the part you didn't tell here, the way others see you.

I enjoyed learning about you. I'm a member of Fresh Wonders, and you have given me some great advice in the past. I've been too busy to be active in the group lately.

You just commented on one of my lenses, so I stopped by your profile page to find one of your lenses to read.

I'm so glad I read this lens today. You are inspirational and kind. It's so nice to see someone living a life of meaning and happiness!

Malu, you have fast become one of my very favourite people, not to mention all-round creative spirits, on Squidoo. I'm proud to know you and it was delightful to learn more about the Malu who lives out there in the real world as well as the one we encounter on here. *Blessed* for being everything an About Me page should be -- interesting, creative and a clever way to pull together all of the topics you write about.
