Knifty Knitter Yellow Long Loom Patterns

I love to share bible stories online to spread the word of God.

Yellow Long Loom

14 Inch Yellow Long Loom by Provo Craft

This is a favorite loom for making scarves. It is a popular loom because it is also little enough to travel in a tote. It's one size larger than the smallest pink loom. The Knifty Knitter yellow, long loom is 14 inches. It has 38 pegs. It can be used to knit tubes, or flat panels. It is part of the long loom set of 4. It's an often overlooked loom, because it's not the smallest, or the largest. It's 4 inches wider than the pink loom, which is often used for hats and scarves too. It can be used to knit extra wide scarves and bigger hats. It is also used for making blankets, afghans, shawls, purses, and pillows.

Felted Bag Pattern

This free pattern requires 2-4 hours to knit. To knit this bag you will knit 6 rows and then pull up the first row to make a brim. Keep knitting changing the yarn color as desired to make stripes. After the last row is knitted, you sew it closed to close up the bottom of the bag. Then it is washed to felt the wool yarn. This makes a finished felted bag that is 16 x 6 inches.

Skill Level: Intermediate

You will need:

  • 14 Inch Long Knifty Knitter Loom (yellow)
  • Knifty Knitter Hook
  • Knifty Knitter Spool Loom
  • Yarn Needle
  • 1 Skein Wool Yarn
  • 1 Skein Complimenting Color Wool Yarn
  • 1 Skein of Natural Wool

Felted Bag Instructions

  1. Ewrap the loom twice (in a spiral fashion) and knit off. Continue in this fashion until you've knitted 9 rows.
  2. Bring the first row that you knitted up and over the pegs to form a rim on the top of the bag. Knit off.
  3. Knit 42 more rows.
  4. Move all the loops from one side of the loom to the other side. Knit off. This closes the bottom of the bag.
  5. Use a crochet hook to cast off.
  6. Using the spool loom and 2 strands of yarn held as one, knit 2 tubes. The first tube should measure 10 inches and the second tube should measure 50 inches.
  7. Felt the wool bag and tubes by washing them in a washing machine and laying them flat to dry.
  8. Sew the tubes to the bag to create straps. Sew the long tube to the inside of the bag at each end. Sew the small tube to the inside of the bag at the center of each side.

Water Wave Shawl Pattern

This water wave shawl pattern by Provo Craft is knitted from end to end, rather than top to bottom. It is done by skipping every other peg, resulting in an airy knit. This is a great first shawl project. The colors used in the sample would be perfect for a teenage girl.

How To Knit an Elf Hat from KnittingMom09

Knittingmom09 shows us how to make an elf hat on the 14 inch long loom in a 2 part series. The videos are a little dark, but the finished elf hat is very cute. She uses the loom clips seen on this page to adjust the 14 inch loom to a slightly smaller size (about 11 1/2 inches). If you haven't used the loom clips before and you are wondering how they work, this video is a good example.

Don't forget to look up the colors to be used each year, the deadline, and the donation location. To view the colors for this year, visit Special Olympics Scarf Project and find your state. This video explains how to use a hair tie in place of loom clips. She does the basic eight wrap for this scarf and holds two separate colors of yarn, wrapping as if they are one.

How to Loom Knit a Scarf - Crossed Stockinette Stitch

One more video on looming a scarf with the crossed stockinette stitch, which is the same as the eight wrap. I usually do an eight wrap scarf across the full width of the pink (10 inch) loom, but this video provides a look at a wider (14 inch) scarf done in the same method. This video is shot from an unusual angel, above the loom, so if you haven't been able to do the knitting watching other videos this one might be for you. Background music is included.
