Jan van Eyck ( 1395 - 9 July 1441), was born in Maaseik, Burgundian Netherlands. He was a flemish painter and considered one of the best Europeon painters of the 15th century. He was one of the earliest advocate of oil based paints and was traditionally regarded as the "father of oil painting".
