You should use interfacing to stabilize the waistband. There are many types of waistbands that you can sew on your garments. These are some of the kinds of waistbands that a dressmaker can sew on clothes:
Traditional waistbands, stretch or elastic waistband, folded bound waistband, two-piece waistband and couture waistband. If you decide to get yourself a waistband with the elastic, you will notice that it will expand when you wear it no matter your size.
Note that this type of waistband may not give you the perfect stylish fit that other waistbands with no elastic can give. This is an easy method that you can use to quickly make a basic waistband for your skirts, trousers or dresses.
Use a sewing pattern that comes with a waist band, cut and fold the band lengthwise in half and then stitch the narrow ends of the right sides facing. With the right sides facing, place the long edge of one side of the band to the waist seam, allow the other band edge to extend so that you can use it for wrap later.Turn in the raw edges of the seam allowance and use slip stitch technique to stitch along the seam line to the inside.
