Making A Paper Plate Zebra With Kids
It's easy to make a paper plate zebra using simple craft supplies. You will most likely have most of these supplies in your home already, and that means it's also thrifty to make zebras and other crafts using paper plates. When kids start crafting they can go through tons of materials, so the fact that this craft is so inexpensive can be a real blessing.
So, here are the supplies you will need:
- Paper Plates
- Construction Paper (you can also use craft foam or felt)
- Googly Eyes (or make eyes with the construction paper)
- Craft Glue
- String - to hang the craft
Look at the shape of the zebra's black pattern on the sides of the face, the muzzle (or mouth) area, and the shape of the ears. These are the shapes you want to cut out using the construction paper. For this zebra paper plate project I would suggest using white and black construction paper (unless you have foam or felt you want to use). Your child can make his or her zebra any color they like!
The black pattern on the side of this zebra's face are triangle shaped - long, thin triangles. The muzzle or mouth area is roundish. The ears are made using both black and white paper cut into leaf shapes. There are also some longer rectangular shaped black papers cut to give the zebra a mane.
Once the shapes are cut out, show your kids how to lay them on the back of the paper plate so they can see exactly where they want them to go. When the kids are happy with the look, help them glue the paper into those areas. Add the Googly eyes, and use a marker to make nostrils and a mouth. That's how easy this paper plate project is!
The Paper Plate Zebra Mask Project
As you can see in the pictures, the markings for this zebra are very similar to the last craft project. Pretty much all zebras look alike. Since you've made the first project on this page, your kids might be ready for a little more fun. So let them make this easy to craft paper plate zebra mask.
The fun will continue long after the crafting is done. You can see this mask was made by actually coloring in a lot of the zebra's black stripes. There is also a new craft supply, the large stick. That's how this mask will stay over your child's face. They will just be able to hold it up.

Make A Zebra Finger Puppet
This zebra finger puppet calls for cardstock...but I bet you could use a paper plate to make one with. The materials you will need to make this are:
- Cardstock (or try a paper plate)
- Hole Punch - 3/4"
- Black Craft Paint
- Black Yarn
- Googly Eyes
- Tacky Type Glue
Begin by cutting the shape for your zebra's body, neck, and head. The body will be an oval shape - that's like a rectangle with rounded corners. The neck and head shape look like a boomerang to me ... or you could cut a cylinder shape and a small oval for the head. Two triangles will be the perfect shape for your zebra's ears.
Use your hole punch to punch 4 finger holes at the bottom of the oval you are going to use for the body.
With your craft paint and brush paint some stripes on your zebra's body, neck area and face. Let the paint dry completely.
Now it's time to glue your zebra together. If you have cut a body, neck, and head using 3 pieces of paper. glue them all together. Then glue the ears on and you will be done. If you only cut 2 pieces from the cardstock, assemble them and then glue on the ears. Add some googly eyes and your zebra is probably beginning to look really good.
Cut your yarn in small pieces and glue them onto the mane (or back) of the zebra's neck and glue a few to the top area of the head between the ears. Finally, a few pieces of black yarn to make a tail. You can tie a knot at the bottom. Glue it in place. Let all the glue dry before you put your fingers into the finger holes and play with your paper finger puppet.
Make A Zebra Pretzel Snack
Snacks, crafts, and kids are the perfect combination. You can make these yummy looking snacks with some pretzel rods and candy melts. They are easy enough to make and super simple to eat.
