How To Draw A Fall Leaf In Inkscape
We can find so many beautiful leaves when it is Fall. Or we can draw them ourselves, try different colors and use them as fall decoration.
I'll show you how to draw autumn leaves with Inkscape. Inkscape is open source vector graphics editor and can be downloaded for free.
Red leaf is picture by Pippi Dust.
This is Inkscape
This is how Inkscape looks like when we open the program.
On the left side we can find Toolbox and first we are going to use line tool, it looks like this.
We start to draw a leaf. We place points with line tool.
This is our leaf.
We add some curves with edit tool. We can find it on the left side and it looks like this.
To add curves we go to the part we want to edit, press it and drag it to the left or right.
We add petiole and veins.
Now we add some spots where color will be different.
Our leaf is colored.
I used these outline colors:
- for petiole and veins #d02929,
- for whole leaf #841515,
- for spots I used five colors: #9a5f24, #dc9224, #e4b423, #dac825 and #dee22a.
And for fill I used these colors:
- for petiole and veins #d62f2f,
- for whole leaf #be170d
- for spots I used five colors: #a8652d, #e38332, #e3ab32, #e3d132 and #e3bf32.
Here we use Filters - Blurs - Noisy blur.
Here we use Filters - Textures - Inkblot for petiole and veins
and Filters - Textures - Ink paint for whole leaf and yellow spots.
And our first leaf is done.
Let's make another leaf, this time it will be yellow. We can change color and add different effects to get different leaves.
Here I used color #643131 for stroke paint and #671208 for fill for petiole and veins and color #ecde1e for stroke paint and #f3ac04 for fill for whole leaf.
Effect for petiole and veins is Filters - Textures - Inkblot and for whole leaf is Filters - Textures - Rough paper.
And here is the third leaf with a little bit different shape.
I used color #6c112e for stroke paint and #76212d for fill for petiole and veins and color #b5100e for stroke paint and #a5361d for fill for whole leaf.
Effect for petiole and veins is Filters - Textures - Inkblot and for whole leaf is Filters - Textures - Ink paint.

Ah, I am harkening back to school days when we captured the changing leaves of Fall and pressed them with an iron and some wax paper.
