This is a very simple and easy Halloween hanging pumpkin decoration. The Hanging Pumpkin Craft is made using paint sticks, held together with Popsicle sticks. This is a Halloween craft project that, with a little adult help, the kids can make.
You can use this decoration as an indoor or outdoor Halloween decoration. This hanging pumpkin craft will be a Halloween project that not only you, but also the kids, will love to do and to display.
Supplies Needed to Make a Hanging Pumpkin
5 Paint sticks
5 Popsicle sticks
Craft paint, white, black, brown and orange
Craft paint brushes
Face and leaf (Pattern)
Wire, one 6" piece and one 24" piece
Burlap, about 18" in length
Trim the Corners
Line the five paint sticks up, take the two outside paint sticks and draw rounded corners on the outside edge on the top and bottom of the sticks. Using a utility knife, cut through the sticks forming rounded corners.
Glue Paint Sticks Together With Popsicle Sticks
Place the paint sticks together, making sure they fit tightly together. Glue four popsicle sticks across all the paint sticks, starting with the center ones.On the front, or smooth side of the plaque made, prime the wood with white paint. Let dry.Paint the plaque with orange paint. Dry and give the plaque a second coat of paint. Let dry.Cut two, 2" pieces from the ends of the remaining popsicle stick. Glue them to the top back of the pumpkin to form a stem. I overlapped the sticks to make the stem a bit wider on the top than at the pumpkin. Paint the stem brown. When dry, make a swirl at the top of the stem with the black Sharpie.
Paint the Pumpkin Face
Print out the face and leaf pattern. Either lay the face pattern over the paint sticks and trace the face placement on the sticks, or better yet, cut out the face pieces and arrange them the way you wish on the paint sticks and draw around them. With black paint, paint the face onto the pumpkin. Paint white crescents inside the eyes.Using the leaf patterns, pin and cut the leaves from green felt. With the black Sharpie, draw veins in the leaf shapes. Glue to the top of the pumpkin, by the pumpkin stem. Curl the 6" piece of wire around a pencil to make a curlique, leaving about 1 " straight. Bend the straight end around to the back of the pumpkin and between the leaves, then glue in place on the back side of the pumpkin.
Accessorize the Hanging Pumpkin
Curl the ends of the 24" piece of wire, bend it to shape a hanger and glue to the top, side edges of the pumpkin. Glue a button over the wires, making sure that the glue covers the wire.Tie a raffia bow around the wire and glue in place. Cut a piece of burlap about 18" long and whatever shape you wish. My burlap piece was like a very narrow kerchief shape.Glue the center of the burlap to the back of the plaque, bring the ends to the front and loop or tie a knot.
