Custom Board Book Printer Comparison
We teach young children with books all the time. These childhood books are drooled on, eaten, torn up, and bent by babies and toddlers. So a traditional hardbound custom photo book with thin glossy paper isn't durable enough to last.
So I've made it my mission to find the presonalized and custom photo book printers that DO allow you to create board books with your pictures. Some of these printers have an online design tool, others allow you to upload files you created with your own design software, and others still layout and design everything for you (you just send them your pictures and text). You'll find features and comparisons of all 7 of them here.
I've found that there are not a lot of options for getting your own board books, and that many of the solutions out there go out of business. So I try to keep this list up to date as much as I can. Right now there are 7 board book printers that I know of.

Blank Board Books - Cupcakes, Stars, Houses, Oh My
I haven’t really fully explored these yet (as I just found them tonight 11/27/12) but I’m really excited to find inexpensive blank board books that come in an assortment of sizes and shapes. These are great for hand crafting your own board books (like scrap booking, but for little hands – would also be a great scrapbook projects for kids to do themselves).

Pint Sized Productions on December 20, 2018:
I just had a horrible experience with Pint Sized productions. Bad experience with their online tools, bad customer service, and the books they sent me were pixelated and poorly cut. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. On the positive side, they said they were going to refund my money. Let's see if they do.
Dale Anderson from The High Seas on August 24, 2017:

You've forgot UK based (but world wide posting) Photostories For Little People. Bespoke, fully personalized via password protected gallery, any size, any number of pages, acid-free, baby safe, quality thick board and cold laminated (waterproof). And you only pay once all ready to print (will design according to your idea, so no funky software, downloads etc required, yet unlimited suggestions allowed:-). Anyway, worth to check...

I have 2 cents regarding Pint Size. Thumbs down as a designer. I have made books on Shutterfly, etc and expected the same flexabilty on uploads/manipulation. Not so. You had better have your design 100% figured out because there is not sorting or arranging option once file/pages are uplaoded.

Anne on March 26, 2015:
I wouldn't recommend PintSize Productions. I tried to use them for a book I made my niece. We exchanged numerous emails. Every time I changed something to meet their specifications, they said it still wasn't right. I had the exact number of pages/spreads. It was like talking to a brick wall.

Thank you for advertising this! I make story books for my nephews all the time, but I do them through the computer using their faces and such. But I LOVE this idea! I'll have to make them for their birthday presents in 2012.
