Bringing the wild home with Big Cat Cross Stitch
I love the big cats. They have that mysterious quality of being both beautiful and deadly. Having worked hands on with big cats in a small zoo I understand just how true this is. But it's their beauty that holds my fascination both as an artist as well as an animal enthusiast. Because of my animal background I created this page to celebrate the big cat's beauty in the form of needle art patterns.
Gathered together here on this page is a collection of the most big cat beautiful cross stitch patterns and kits that I could find. I've selected patterns that are of varying degrees of difficulty as well so there's a plenty of patterns here for both novice and expert stitchers alike.
I have also included a section on creating a beautiful finished piece of needle art. In my 20 plus years of being a professional picture framer I have framed countless designs and have noticed some of the same issues regarding the creation process that transcends the experience levels. As such I thought a few tips listed for your benefit. many are of the obvious nature but there may be something in the list that you had not thought of. And always if you have any questions feel free to leave a comment in the guestbook or contact via my bio page. Because in the end I want you to have a wonderful finished piece that is of heirloom quality.
And lastly I included a few tips regarding framing your needlework to help ensure that indeed your work of needle art will last for generations.

Tips For Framing Your Finished Stitchery
From A Professional Picture Framer
Most of the time stitchers don't think much about the fact that their needle art may indeed wind up being an heirloom item that is treasured for generations. But point of fact it quite often does. As such I have added a few tips regarding framing which is the best way to protect your stitchery.
* Wash or dry clean before framing Getting out the oils and dirt will help prevent mold growth.
* Create an air space between the glass and fabric Again this prevent mold growth. Glazing should never rest upon the cloth. You can create air space easily in two ways. You can use matting which is exactly what it was created for. If you prefer to have no mats you can use archival spacers which hide under the lip of the frame but successfully holds that glass well above the fabrics surface.
Use archival products Acid from non-archival products (like foamcore and matting) may discolor the fabric. The same may be for non-archival sticky boards.
When possible don't use sticky boards Perhaps it's my professional picture framer bias but I am not a fan. If you do use tacky board be sure it is archival and use caution when removing or adjusting the fabric as the sticky surface may pull your stitches loose.
Use glass Most of the time everyone chooses glass but occasionally there are those who prefer the fabric exposed since the glass might hide some of the finer details of the stitchery. Glass protects the stitchery from dust, smoke, bugs and dirt in general. Glazing means you won't have to tear it apart for cleaning every few years.
Keep Unglazed Stitchery Out Of The Bathroom and Kitchen This again is a mold and moisture issue. So if you want to put it in the bathroom or kitchen again use glazing.

Hi there! My mom used to do a lot of cross-stitch, so we had them all over the house, including a few big kitties, actually. I remember one of a lion and another of a panther. Oh, and a free-style one she made of a much smaller kitty--our calico.
