Thelma Alberts is a natural born Filipina who lives in her adopted country Germany for more than 3 decades. She loves traveling in Europe.
After publishing my last hub Who Are Your Close Friends, I sat in our living room and was thinking "what now?". I was thinking of the next article that I can write. Does it happen to you fellow hubbers? An hour or two came and I just sat in front of my laptop reading hubs from other hubbers until I saw the first comment of my last hub. As I always do, I answered the comment and read again the said hub for I don´t know for how many times and found out that I have "deleted" one of my close friends accidentally. How could I? I even sent a message to my "deleted" friend to read the article after the publication. Well, I was angry to myself but I have to wait that the traffic goes down before I can add her in my article.
Having calmed myself, my eyes looked around the living room without any intentions and Bingo....I got it! Pairs of eyes were staring at me. Eyes of the portrait paintings hanging at our walls painted by my husband. It is weird because I sometimes feel that those eyes are following me. Now they are my inspirations in writing this article. These paintings are always with us wherever we live. They seem like members of my family and will be added every now and then so that we need more walls in our flat.
A Lady in Oil
A Child Portrait
The child portrait below is an oil painting painted when my son was ten years old. It was painted by using a photograph because at that age, my son could not sit or stand still. It has a resemblance of him as a child.
My Son in Oil Painting
This lovely painting was painted before it came to our mind to move to Ireland. That was in the early year of 2001. It is an irish landscape created in my husbands fantasy. He put all together the existing landscapes in one oil painting and it was supposed to be the place where we could live. The cottage overlooking the Atlantic Ocean is ours in our dream.
Yvette with her sis
This is an oil painting showing my niece with her little sister at the beach. It was painted when my husband was working and teaching painting in a gallery here in our city. It is a new style of painting he acquired in the gallery.
Yvette With Her Sis In Oil
Portrait in Oil Paintings
These are the other Portrait Paintings which are in oil.
- The girl with a nipa hat is my orphan cousin Jane who lives with my family in the Philippines.
- Frida Kahlo was a fascinating talented mexican painter who´s life was filmed in Hollywood and her paintings are seen in museums all over the world.
- Robert Redford, as I think everybody knows is a handsome, great talented actor in Hollywood who made a lot of excellent films.
- Grace Kelly the late Hollywood actress who was later married to Prince Rainer of Monaco. This painting was painted in the early 80´s before her death by car accident.
- Sigmund Freud, who was called the Father of Psychology, was an Austrian Neurologist who used hypnosis in treating his patients.
Portrait Oil Paintings
Paintings are telling us what life other people have and how talented must be the painter to have captured the heart of the people by just watching the painting.
Sigmund Freud Oil Painting
This is an oil painting which was painted in Ireland when we were still living there. It was one of the paintings my husband was exhibiting in an Art Exhibition in Belmullet, Ireland 2009.
Shillelagh Landscape in Ireland
This landscape is really existing in Shillelagh. The small house you can see was owned before by our Irish friend. We spend our first Irish Christmas in that house with our friends and her family. It was a beautiful Christmas celebration full of love and happiness. Although it was so cold for I slept with angora jacket in bed, it was still the loveliest Christmas I have spent outside the Philippines. My husband and I went walking in the Wicklow mountains which is behind that house. It was an amazing view. That was Christmas 2000.
The beauty of an Irish landscape painting hanging on my wall is one of the best home decorations I have at home. Is it not nice to look at this painting relaxing and daydreaming about traveling to the green island?
Shillelagh Oil Painting
If the paintings could say a word, they could tell a story about me and my family life. The one that I am not telling you. The laughter and joy, sadness, anger, and secrets that they share with me might be known now. Who knows? Maybe they share everything with me and they might be talking to each other about me. Just like in fantasy films where the paintings are communicating to each other or maybe my own portrait will get old instead of me. Like in the novel The Picture of Dorian Gray from Oscar Wilde. Well, I might like it but I don´t want to be a murderer like Dorian Gray. Weird!

I love the paintings and wonder about the stories behind them. All of this really stimulates the imagination. That gives the viewer something to do aside from enjoying the art. Thanks for another good hub!

You´re right Vinaya. Collecting paintings is an expensive hobby but having an artist in a family means you need to have a huge and many walls in the house where you can hang them all. I´m not complaining but I get a bit angry when my hubby erased a perfect beautiful painting because it´s not good enough for his eyes. Thanks for stopping by.

Collecting painting is an expensive hobby, unless you have an amazing artist in your family.
