Red Paint on a Rock - a Distraction for a Strawberry Hunter
The Culprit - a Black Bird
The Bird's Target Area - the Strawberry Bed
The idea of protecting my strawberries is attractive. Since I believe the source of information to be honest and forthright, I thought I would give their idea some credence.
A can of red paint. Some rocks. A board to lay them on. Spray, flip, repeat.
Their photo shows round, flat stones. I used crushed lime rock. It has the square shape. I pondered wood shavings painted green for the leaves, but perhaps I will leave well enough alone.
Hopefully the birds will fall for this. Birds, the species that eat rocks for their gizzard, birds.
The Idea Was not My Own
So. I pondered where to get my rocks. We have a pile of rocks for fixing our driveway, so I started there.
Rocks Shaped Like Strawberries - Ordinary Lime Gravel
Real Strawberries - to Compare
Paint - Plus Primer so it Sticks to the Rocks
Flip Rocks Over and Paint Other Side as Well
Now to scatter them in the strawberry bed.
I had taken off the vinyl glove, so my fingers got a bit of red paint in them. I used some mineral spirits to remove it.
Oh the Paint is a Little Wet Yet
Ok. Rocks Sprinkled. Pondering painting more rocks.
On to other projects.
