Make Beaded Safety Pin Dolls

Instructions for Making Beaded Safety Pin Dolls

Beaded safety pin dolls are great anytime of the year. Use them as decoration in your home or give them as gifts. They usually sell very well at craft shows and bazaars. A variety of colors of beads can be used so they will match the theme of any room.

The following supplies are required: to make the doll shown in the photo.

30 large size white paddle beads
10- 6 mm green faceted beads
70 tri-beads
1 white pipe cleaner or chenille stem
10- 2 inch safety pins
1-2 inch head pin
1 large size raspberry type bead
Small doll head
Hot glue and gun
2 feet of 24 gauge wire
Wire cutters

Complete the safety pins as follows:
Place beads in this order. 1- 6mm bead, 3 tri-beads, 1 white paddle bead and 4 green tri-beads on each safety pin. Close each pin.

Cut a 2 inch piece of 24 gauge wire. Thread the wire through the loop ends of the safety pins. Twist and close the wire pulling the ends of the pins into a close circle.

Cut another piece of wire that is approximately 14 inches long. Insert the wire into the hole in the closure end of a pin. Put 3 large white paddle beads onto the wire.

Insert the wire into the next pin and add 3 whiter paddle beads.

Continue this step for the rest of the pins adding 3 white paddle beads between each pin.

Twist and secure the ends of the wire. You should now have about a 9 inch circle. This forms the bottom of the dolls dress.

Hot glue a small doll head to the top end of the 2 inch head pin. Place 3 large size paddle beads on the head pin. This forms the top of the dolls body.

Insert the head pin into the small top end of the dolls skirt and secure it with hot glue. Use pliers or wire cutters to either bend or cut off the excess pin on the underside of the dolls skirt. Add a small amount of hot glue to cover the snipped end.

Attach the center of a 4 inch piece of white pipe cleaner to the back. Bring each end around to the front to form the arms. Hot glue the ends into the sides of the raspberry bead.

Form a 1 inch circle of pipe cleaner and attach it on the dolls head to form the hat. Glue a paddle bead in the center of the circle.

I can only imagine what these would look like if they were done with crystal beads. They would definitely look like snow or ice queens.

Yes they are pretty and have many uses. Rather than just let them sit around and collect dust ;they can be used as ornaments for the holidays and as extra gifts on packages. It all depends on the bead colors used.

Thanks for commenting.
