Making Jewelry

A few design ideas for knitting and crocheting Jewelry.

After making up a couple of these jewelry projects, I think it would be fairly easy to create and design our own jewelry. It seems the basic skills and stitches of crocheting and knitting, very few materials, a little patience as well as time are all we need and we are good to go.

Now we won't have to settle for a necklace or bracelet that we don't really care for. With just a little imagination we can combine colors, textures and sizes to design and create something exciting and up to date.

Crochet Necklace

This bead crochet necklace that is pictured at the top right is made from mercerized cotton, with faceted chalcedony, and as well as fresh water pearls. Two different attachment methods were used in the making of this necklace: the chalcedony beads had been strung before construction and were placed into position during crocheting; and the pearls were attached by means of silver pins afterward. A chalcedony bead forms part of the clasp.

Thank You Alise- Evon....the Understatement Necklace is my favorite as well.

Nice suggestions for both those who like to design their own work and those who want a pattern- I like both routes! As far as patterns go, I especially liked the Understatement Necklace- sometimes it really doesn't have to be complicated to be elegant.

@tlpoague...Crochet jewelry is so fun, although I do appreciate the hard work that goes into a doily...I would personally would rather create a necklace or a bracelet...when I tire of it .I can make a new one ..LOL..

Some lovely ideas here.

Tammy on May 26, 2013:

I am a fan of crochet jewelry. I started making my own last year when I dusted off my crochet hooks to make baby blankets and hats for some members of my family. Until then, I had no idea what to do with the doily thread I had inherited from my husband's aunt. (I never could get the knack of crocheting doilies.) I have found some interesting bead work and jewelry charms at auctions that work wonderfully for these projects.

Great choice of a hub to write about. I will have to check out some of these patterns. Thanks!
