Interesting Pictures of Deer

Wait, deer are interesting?

Cervine, ungulate, ruminant, buck, doe, hind, hart, stag, vermin, food, prey, or roadkill - call them what you will, deer are a family of multi-stomached, herbivorous mammals native to nearly every continent on earth. Reveled across the globe for their beauty, grace, power, and wild wisdom, they have become symbols of nature, innocence, war, and spiritual growth in many cultures both ancient modern.

Deer are alluring creatures worthy of positive attention from groups less interested in hunting them and more interested in celebrating their appearance on earth. There deserves to be appreciation for these animals which are so often taken for granted.

In the same way as horses and dogs, deer communicate, maintain forms of society, and display a wide range of interesting habits with one another. To me, they are an endless source of wonder.

And so, in the name of deer, I have compiled here a few of my favorite Cervidae captures that I found to be memorable for one reason or another. Perhaps you will also find them to be interesting.

While I am not opposed to the legal hunting of deer, using the fact that you hunt as a weapon to goad negative feedback from people who enjoy the company of live deer is a sign of immaturity.

I'd love for you to take me hunting, then you could take pictures of me killing some of those.... lol

These are great photographs. We have deer in our area, and I really enjoy looking at them. Driving down roads in the dark can be scary though, especially during mating season.

Shaddie (author) from Washington state on April 21, 2012:

Certainly, that would be just wonderful :) Deer and dogs have some similar behaviors when it comes to play. It is absolutely fascinating watching them interact with each other.
