Pictures And Sketchbook
In Sketchbook, you can make your own picture collage of your own, with pure art, without any built in filters on for you to just click and save. Meaning, its up to you on how to arrange and beautify your project.
Picture collage is an art wherein multiple materials (in this case ,pictures or images) were combined to create a single picture, may the positions be organized or in an abstract artistic manner.
Nowadays most photo editing apps available on store have filter effects, in which you just choose a specific theme and viola! You have your project spick and span. But how about making it more interesting and more challenging? Here is a tutorial on how you can make your own collage with Autodesk Sketchbook.
Pick your pics. Choose the images you want to be in your project. May it be pictures of your work, diplomas, medals, certificates, family members, events or it could be a compilation of pictures of your ex(s). Any of the above will do but much better if the pictures or images have a thing or two in common, like pictures on your trips while cycling , etc.
Make a folder in which you would copy and paste your chosen files to locate it easily in the process. Rename the folder whatever you like and paste the files you have chosen.
Open Autodesk Sketchbook and start a new project. Set the size of the canvass 2500x2500 or higher for a much precise output. To know more about the size settings of the canvass, please refer here. Just keep in mind that the higher the size of your canvass, the lower your available layers will be, so don’t use it all up and leave layers the same as the images you will use in addition to 5 free layers (you’ll need that for the collage).
Insert your images. In the toolbar at the top of the screen, click the compass and ruler like icon and choose import image. Locate the folder you create where your chosen pictures were saved. Then check the image. You can only pick 1 image per import process and would make the picture a single layer in your canvass.
Use the tools available in your current toolbar to adjust and choose the location of your image in the canvass.
- Add image – lets you add an image in your canvass.
- Take photo – lets you take a photo from your camera. You need to permit the app to use the camera for this feature.
- Distort – gives the photo “raised” effect for an artistic design. Can be adjusted or raise any of the four corners of the image.
- Move – move the image in the location you want in the canvass. Just drag the joystick image to your desired position.
- Flip vertical and Flip horizontal – flips the whole image vertically or horizontally.
- Rotate clockwise and counter clockwise – rotates the image clockwise or counter clockwise.
Other adjustment method is by two-finger pinching, outward to enlarge the image and inward to reduce the size. You can also rotate the image with the two-finger method instead of the rotate tool. It would rotate the image to your desired position other than the 45 degrees rotation in each click.
If your satisfied with the adjustments you’ve made, place the image by clicking the check icon.
(Note: Other changes in the image will use another toolbar once placed on the canvass.)
Repeat steps 1-5 for the remaining images, remember that you have to place the images according to your design, it’s either organized or overlapping, the choice is yours.
Adjustments in layers. You can choose which overlaps which by dragging the layer over the other in the layers tab.
Add another blank layer or check the one below the image layers in your canvass. Pick a brush and paint the whole area with the color and shade you want.
You can also use the textures available in the library if you want a constantly textured background.
And Lastly. . .
To save your work, just hit the menu button and click "Gallery". Then choose "Save Sketch". It would be named "Untitled" by default but you can change it by typing what you prefer.
A Simple Tip That Might be Handy
You can choose an image in your canvass with a little detail than any other in the list to your project background.
If you have picked an image, click the compass and ruler like icon again in the toolbar and choose “transform”. You can enlarge the image to fit your canvass to your background. Then place it by clicking the check icon.
Return to the layer list and drag the enlarged image to the bottom of the list. You can also adjust its opacity for a smooth background effect.
You can choose the design you want or rather, you can make your own design. With just some twerks in the layers, properties and images, you can create your very own collage design. Just remember to check all the available brushes and features the app have for you.
