How to Crochet a Stan Marsh South Park Hat

And Other Hats Inspired by South Park Cast

Show off your South Park fandom with this quick and easy crochet project!

Even if you are a beginner at crocheting, you will still be able to make Stan's trademark hat.

In addition to the resources I will provide to help you learn how to make Stan's hat, I've also included how to make Cartman's Hat, Craig Tucker's hat, and Wendy's hat.

These hats should make for great holiday gifts for any South Park fan, or can be used for costumes.

I hope you find the information I've provided here fun and useful. Happy crocheting!

Basic Beanie with Pom Pom: Cartman's Hat

Before we get to Stan, let's take a look at Eric Cartman's Hat, which is actually just a tad bit easier than Stan's hat.

Eric's Hat is a basic crocheted beanie cap with a floppy pom pom on top.

Below are videos on how to crochet a beanie cap and how to make the type of pom pom you'll need for Cartman's hat. I've also added tips on making your Cartman hat look authentic and some suggestions on yarn you could use to make your hat.

How to Crochet a Basic Beanie

This video from bobwilson123 is very helpful because you can adjust the pattern to the size you want whether the hat is for a baby, child, or an adult. She is also kind enough to offer a free written tutorial on how to create the beanie as well, if you do better with reading patterns.

How to Make a Yarn Pom Pom

As a general note, anyone learning how to crochet or who is looking for free and fun tutorials should definitely check out Crochet Geek's videos. I have learned SO MUCH from her and haven't even seen half of the videos she's put up!

How to Crochet Eric Cartman's Hat

Using the tutorials I listed above, follow these guidelines to make your perfect Cartman hat!

- Select yarn colors that closely match Cartman's hat. It may help to have a picture when you go to buy your yarn. I've listed some yarn suggestions below.

- I would suggest using a chunkier yarn for your pom pom and not making it too full or round so that it sits on the hat in the same way Cartman's does. If you do not want to buy a separate yarn for the pom pom you can use the chunky yarn to trim the hat or use the yarn you're using for the body to make the pom, just try not to make it too round.

- Crochet the body of the hat in the turquoise, leaving the last two rows for the yellow. Or if you are using a chunky yellow, crochet on the last row in yellow for a trim.

Basic Beanie with Ribbed Rim and Pom Pom: Stan's Hat

Stan Marsh's hat is done mostly the same as Cartman's except for two big differences (besides color choice): His hat finishes off with a rim, rather than just changing color, and his pom pom is much fuller, rounder, and more noticeably made of strands than Cartman's.

The easiest way to create a beanie with a rim is to use the rib stitch. This may sound a bit scary, but it really isn't! You may have to practice a few times to get it right, but once you've mastered it you'll find that it takes the look of your hats to a whole new level.

Below I've included a helpful video on how to crochet a beanie with a ribbed rim, some suggestions on making your hat totally Stan, and some yarns I've selected for this hat.

When making Stan's hat...

- Be mindful of your yarn color choices. Like with Cartman, it may help to have a picture on hand when you are shopping. I've included more suggestions that I think will work well.

- Make Stan's pom pom really full and round. You can really tell in the cartoon that his is made out of yarn or at least strands of something. Make sure you use a yarn that is going to stick right up.

- Instead of using ribbing, you can also make your beanie extra long and just fold over the bottom.

Crochet Hat with Ear flaps: Craig Tucker's Hat

Although he's not one of the major characters in the show, I'd thought I'd include some info on how to make Craig's hat.

His hat is essentially a beanie with ear flaps and a pom pom like Cartman's.

How to Crochet Craig Tucker's Hat

- Create a pom pom using chunky yarn and the tips I noted with Cartman's hat.

- The tutorial I listed above will work perfect for this hat, but the braided ends on the earflaps aren't really necessary for this character.

Crocheted Berets: Wendy's Hat

Can't have Stan without...well Kyle...but also without Wendy! Here are some great beret tutorials you can use to create Wendy's hat. Pick the one you like the best!

All the tutorials I picked out are appropriate for beginner to intermediate crocheters, so don't be scared to give them a try. They may look more complicated than they actually are.

How to Crochet Wendy Testaburger's Hat

- For the navy blue spot at the top you can either start off your hat with navy blue and then switch to pink or add a navy blue pom pom.

Good luck!

Please let me know if you found this information helpful and if there are any other character hats (South Park or other) that you would like help with in the future. I'm planning to do my own patterns for a crocheted Chef's hat and Kyle's trapper hat, since I couldn't find any really good free resources for them--so look forward to that sometime soon.

Best of luck with your hat projects! Do your best and don't get discouraged!
