How to Crochet a Christmas Tree Skirt

Christmas Tree Skirt

Crochet Christmas Tree Skirts

Christmas tree skirts come in a variety of styles and sizes. When we were kids we use to purchase a real tree and wrap a bed sheet around the bottom. It was nothing fancy and since all of the presents hid the skirt it didn't matter.

Now the stores features all sorts of tree skirts from the commercial to the elegant. A favorite tree skirt for under our Christmas tree is the one I crocheted years ago. Handmade tree skirts, whether they are quilted, knitted, embroidered or crocheted, make wonderful gift ideas for family and friends.

Christmas tree skirts can be made in solid colors of white, red or green, or using multiple yarn colors and adding special touches in the mix. A crocheted tree skirt is basically made by crocheting a round pattern but not joining the circle together in order to be able to wrap it around the tree. The skirt remains open on one end, that end is placed toward the back of the tree and is matched together so that it looks like one piece.

Tree skirts can be crocheted in motifs, stripes, lay flat, ruffle, made in multiple colors, as solids, in Christmas colors or in matching tree or home colors such as pinks, blues or purples.

Crochet Christmas Tree Skirt Yarns

Yarns and Patterns

There are a variety of free Christmas tree skirt patterns available online along with some great books and ideas. I have a favorite pattern that I continue to use again and again because it is quick and easy for me to crochet.

There are many patterns that can be found on Amazon, Etsy and eBay also if there is a specific type of crochet pattern that you are looking for.

Many Christmas tree skirts are made using bulky yarn or holding two strands together. Although single strand yarn can make a beautiful tree skirt.

Yarns in Christmas colors such as red, greens and whites are available around the Christmas season. Blue and white snowflake Christmas tree skirts are also popular along with make a skirt in a favorite color such as purples or yellows and browns.

Following a pattern exactly or adding your own touches to the pattern by changing colors or adding a border or additional stripe or flower can make this a one of a kind Christmas decoration.

No matter how you create your Christmas tree skirt a handmade item is something that will be valued and cherished by family members for years to come.

That would make a wonderful gift! Many years ago I crocheted little bells as ornaments for the Christmas tree. I gave them away as gifts and I think that people really appreciate handmade items. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
