How To 'Recycled Art'?

Selt-Taught Artist; DIY Craft Enthusiast; Home Decor Fanatic. I am all about Personalizing and Decorating my surroundings.

Gift Packaging !!

Rule 1.
You don’t need to buy any fancy stuff or craft supplies. Just look around, these days packaging is so fancy, when your friends send you presents, save a thing or two from the gift wraps or packaging embellishments for your DIY craft projects.
Old magazines, newspapers or any sort of used paper is our other target item that can be used in so many diverging ways for DIYs.

There is only Rule 1 to DIYs ;)

My Christmas DIY

I got these dividers in a gift box from a friend. They looked so appealing that I then and there decided to use them to make something for home decor.

I folded them as in the photo and used hot glue to secure them on a stick made from paper quilling technique which I painted using acrylics to match my furniture. I used the orange swirls from an artificial plant.

Some 3 Years Back

One of my friend suggested I should go for exhibitions...

It was a months time since I started practicing paper quilling and origami techniques. Towards the end of that month, I had so many of my crafts ready that I started gifting them to friends.

One of my friend loved my work so much that she asked me to showcase my craft to a wider audience.
I really liked her idea, it was a life changing moment in my life. I wanted to use exhibitions as an opportunity to spread an awareness.
The idea was not only to reduce waste but also, to inspire stay at home people that a lot could be achieved from the comfort of ones home.

I started preparing for my first Exhibition.

I Used:

  • Used A4 sheets
  • Dried Palm Leaves
  • Stems of dying plants
  • Plastic bottles
  • Old Magazines and newspapers for making DIY home decor items.

Feedback From A Few

One shopper appreciated my work. He was a 9 to 5 job person. He said that he is buying from me to motivate his sister who was currently at home after studies and wasting time in unimportant stuff. He was impressed simple paper folding could create such beautiful pieces.

Another of my shopper was a Business Owner. He shopped a few pieces for his office to promote his 'Environmentally Friendly' approach.

I was also visited by a few school going girls. On of them was an 'Upcycling Artist' herself. She too was a supporter of the 'Reduce, Reuse, Recycle' cause.

Stay at home Mums were very inquisitive about the craft work. They were inquiring about the techniques so they could adorn their homes with such decorations.

My first exhibition was a small, cozy setting in our local area. It was a 2 day display of our products over the weekend for the nearby community. This warm event marked the start of my journey. Since then I have conducted many exhibitions and my journey towards inspiring people continues.

HI! I am Shumaila Khan

Few Years Ago,

I had no clue on what inspired me or what was I passionate about? Life was mundane, day to day routine. But my aim was to keep learning, researching, experimenting anything that has a potential to help us grow into better versions of ourselves and connect us with our life's purpose.

With time I found Art and Craft excites me. It connects to me on the soul level and helps me express my self.
I now use my Art and Craft talent to inspire others.
Remember: "We can be some body else’s beacon of hope, let’s keep our light shinning bright".
