How To Crochet A Toy Top Hat: Free Pattern!
Need a top hat for a fancy Mr. Teddy?
I've got one for you! Done in rounds and single crochet, this simple pattern is easy and fun to do. It only took me about 30 minutes to come up with the pattern, so I'm sure it will take less to only do the crochet part. Best part? It's another free pattern. Have fun! Let me know if you find any inconsistencies.

Ugly Sweater Giraffe (my sister's fond name for the Christmas present I made her!) is chilling with his awesome top hat.
Toy Top Hat Pattern
I used black yarn, per the top hat, but of course you can use any color yarn. G hook is what I prefer.
Ch 4. Join with a sl st.
R1: sc inc around (8)
R2: sc inc around (16)
R3: (sc inc, sc) around (24)
R4: (sc inc in next 2 st, sc in next 2 st) 6 times (36)
R5: sc around in back loops only (36)
R6-12: sc around, working in front loops again (36) turn
R13: Working in back loops only, (sc inc, 8 sc) 4 times. (40) join first with previous round, then with current round.
R14: Working in front loops again, (sc inc, 9 sc) 4 times (44) join with sl st. tie off.
Alternate Hat Bill/Brim
By doing the previous pattern, the bill or brim of the hat will show the underside of the crochet pattern (because of the turn). If you're using black, this won't be noticeable. If you are using another color and would prefer to have the right side up, here is an alternative:
Alternate Hat
Crochet rows 1-12. Do not turn after Row 12.
R13: Working in previous round, (sc inc, 8 sc) 4 times (40)
R14: Working in current round again, (sc inc, 9 sc) 4 times (44) join with sl st. tie off.
