Halloween Decorations: Best Scary Do it Yourself DIY Crafts

Pet Crow

A pet crow in a jar is a scary and unique addition to your Halloween décor and looks fabulous on a book shelf. When lit it looks like something out of an Edgar Allen Poe poem.

Supplies:

-One glass jar with a lid (this is a triangular recycled milk glass canister with a cork top I found at Goodwill for $1.00)

-A handful of American Moss or other moss or greenery

-One crow floral pick. I embellished this crow with iridescent purple glitter paint so it stands out in the light

-Driftwood or a stick for a perch

-One string of battery operated lights. Flame less votive candles can be used at the bottom of the jar.

Instructions:

Place the moss in the bottom of the jar. Glue crow to the perch with super glue and add it to the jar. Add lights to the jar. You can also place the light under the lid of the jar.

Set your pet crow on a book shelf or table and enjoy.

Milk Jug Jack O' Lanters

Milk Jug Jack O' Lanterns are an easy and inexpensive way to add light and décor to your porch and walkways during Halloween. Draw a festive face on each jug with a permanent marker. You can add flame less tea lights or a string of battery operated string lights for instant decor!

Bloody Shower Curtain

For chilling indoor décor, nothing is scarier than a bloody shower curtain reminicent of the one featured in the movie "Psycho." This curtain of terror can be purchased pre made in Halloween stores for about $20 each. These can easily be made for less than $5. Purchase a plain shower curtain liner from a store like Walmart. Use red paint or fake Halloween blood to create hand prints and blood splatter on the curtain. It is ready to hand and scare your guests. Make sure the painted side of the curtain is facing out when hanging or the paint will run in the shower.

Glow in the Dark Lanterns

For instant color, illumination, and interest, make your own glowing lanterns. These lanterns are created from Glow Sticks. Break the seal on the glow stick to activate the solution inside. Carefully cut open one end of a Glow Stick (available at Walmart and the Dollar Tree). Dump the solution into clear jars. Shake and swirl the jars so the solution creates an interesting pattern. Use several different colors for a festive scene. The effect will last about 4 hours. These lantern provide a great safe way to light a path for younger trick or treaters.

Cannibal Pumpkin Man

Instead of making a standard jack o' lantern, make a giant Cannibal Pumpkin Man to scare trick or treaters and your neighbors. To make this tower of terror, stack three large pumpkins on top of each other. The top pumpkin will be the head. Carve a scary face. This pumpkin is holding the remains of another disassembled pumpkin. You can add your own creative ideas to make a yard design that will have your neighborhood talking.

Bloody Chainsaw and Other Fun Tools

To make a scary massacre scene that scares older kids and adults, fake blood on power equipment and yard tools does the trick. Use fake blood on chainsaws, hammers, axes, picks, and shovels and set them out in plain view. This is an inexpensive way to create terror and a memorable trick or treat experience.

If you are a hard core Halloween enthusiasts, you can elaborate on this idea by getting a free processed cow or pig carcass from your butcher. Display the carcass with the bloody yard tools or hang it from a tree.

Ghost with Glowing LED Eyes

A ghost with glowing eyes is a scary Halloween craft that is easy, inexpensive, and quick to make. Purchase a Styrofoam ball from a craft store. Insert two battery operated LED Lights (you can also insert two flame less votive candle holders) into the ball. Add white fabric such as a sheet or shower curtain over the ball. Cut a tiny hole in the back of the fabric where a hanger can be inserted. Hang your ghost in a desired location.

These are great ideas Tammy. My Mom used to have this huge black crow attached to the railing going up to the front door on Halloween. That darn thing really scared so many kids. My mom has been gone a long time now, but we still have that crow and he's hanging under the patio awning. He stays there all year. Fun ideas, I like the shower curtain idea too.

Wow! A smart list of ideas! Seems that with each hub, you are getting more and more creative! The crow reminds me of the film 'Omen Part 2'! The Psycho-inspired curtain idea is brilliant and so are Milk Jug Jack 'O' Lanterns, Chainsaw equipments, Cannibal Pumpkin Man and Ghost with glowing LED eyes! Halloween is not as widely celebrated in my country as several other countries but it is popular among youngsters here. They threw Halloween-themed parties and dressed up as vampires, zombies, devils, famous scary film characters, etc. An entertaining hub with fun suggestions! Well-done!

I love the cannibal pumpkin man... sadly, I don't think it is something that I would be able to do. Even in October it is too hot here for us to keep that up for very long before it completely rots out. I also love the bloody shower curtain. I am definitely doing that this year. I LOVE Hallows Eve! My daughter's BD is 10/26 and the other girl is 7/1 - so we usually try to combine the holiday with a birthday party of some kind.

The only party I really enjoyed having here was the Halloween Party and costume contest. Oh and the Pinata - one daddy learned the hard way why you don't try to HOLD the Pinata while the kid swings the bat:) haha!

Maddy and I are going to try to make the Crow in the jar and the glow in the dark lanterns! We both love it!
