Frugal Handmade Gift Ideas: Homemade Bath and Beauty Recipes

A great idea for frugal handmade gifts would be to make homemade bath and beauty products and put them in pretty packaging such as jars, baskets or cute containers. There are so many free bath and beauty recipes out there it can make your head spin. I managed to round up some that I thought might be easy and fun to make. From bath fizzies to body scrubs, you CAN make just about any bath or beauty product at home. I think any of these would make an awesome homemade gift.

Before we get going I want to warn you that your mouth may start watering when you read about and see some of these! Some of them sound good enough to eat. However, they are NOT edible. A very special thank you to all of the talented people who shared these awesome recipes and tutorials.

Square Bath Fizzies

Martha Stewart has a recipe for these square bath fizzies. You drop them in the bath and they start to fizz. They have skin softening ingredients and smell good, too. You choose the scent you want to use. I love the jars used with the attached ribbons and tags. These jars of fizzies would make excellent gifts for any occasion.

At Anita's Crafty Creations via there are these YUMMY looking cupcake bath bombs! Yes, I said BATH BOMBS.... do they NOT look delicious enough to eat! I can't believe they aren't real- my mouth waters when I look at them! Make up a batch of these bath bombs for your favorite person and give as a gift. Who wouldn't LOVE to have some of these?! Scratchlove has the free recipe and tutorial to make these lovely homemade bath salts in cute, decorated jars. It's a simple recipe with great photo illustration. The jars used are lovely but any jars will do, even those old jars you have been saving. Thank you Scratchlove for this awesome homemade bath salt tutorial!

Bath.Body.DIY has this homemade warm vanilla brown sugar and coconut body scrub recipe. It LOOKS and SOUNDS amazing! I swear this stuff makes my mouth water just by the sound of it. A good body rub will smell great and moisturize the skin too. This one definitely sounds like it fits the bill. I love the cute, small jar it is in.

Handmade Heart Shaped Soap

According to Kelly has a nice, easy tutorial for making these heart shaped soaps. It's easy to understand with great photos. The base is glycerin so it will leave your skin feeling super soft. I can imagine making these and putting them in a nice clear jar with a cute tag or putting them into a cellophane bag with a pretty ribbon tie. These heart shaped soaps are so pretty!

Noble Pig has this super tutorial for a refreshing lemon salt body scrub. With only 3 ingredients it's super simple too. Make it, put it in jars and wallah! I love the jars used in the photo but any jar will's a great way to recycle used jars too. I can't wait to try this one myself!

Uhm....Craftista via has another mouth watering beauty recipe for Neopolitan Ice Cream scrub. It looks just like the ice cream.. but its actually a great, exfoliating body scrub. I love how they have it layered in the jars. What a "sweet" handmade gift this would make.

That's so Cuegly has a link on her page to make these round bath bomb fizzies. These are so pretty with such huge pops of color and I hear they are truly easy to make. Whip up some of these and put them in your favorite container, such as a jar, basket or box, to make a great homemade gift.

Learn how to make these super cute homemade vanilla brown sugar body scrubs at She Is Dallas. There is a great tutorial with the recipe for the body scrub and also instructions on how to decorate the jar!

Just drop the finished product in a hot bath and relax while they melt. I bet these leave your skin super soft, too. Gourmetician has shared an easy recipe for Coconut Oil and Cocoa Butter Body Butter. Doesn't this look and sound amazing? Another great idea for gift giving. Whip some up and put it in pretty jars. If you are giving as a gift be sure to put on the label,discard after a few months because it does not contain preservatives. Preservative free is a good thing.



Milk Bath Recipes

Doesn't a milk bath sound so relaxing and soothing? Just like anything else, you can make this at home. I found lots of different DIY milk bath recipes at Tipnut. Go there and see the different variations. You are sure to find one that sounds good for you or maybe one that friends or family would love. The recipes are simple. Just fix some up and put it in jars for a great homemade gift.

Chocolatebottle has a great recipe for a Chocolate face mask. My mouth is REALLY watering now! This is a super easy recipe with only 3 ingredients and it's been tested to leave the skin clean and smooth. This would make a really nice Mother's Day gift or could be a fun thing to do at a home spa day. I think just about any woman would loved to be pampered with a luscious chocolate facial. P.S. Cucumbersome has shared a really nice tutorial on how to make these simple yet elegant Tea soaps. I love how they are wrapped in a tea bag with the hanging tags. The packaging is great! She explains how to make the soap and how to package it. She even shares a download for the free printable tags to embellish them with. It's very detailed and easy to understand with great photo illustrations. Any tea lover in your life would probably love to receive this handmade gift! Natashalh- I love bath bombs.. they are really neat! You drop them in the bathwater and they fizz sort of like alkaseltzer and dissolve.. they have stuff in them that makes your skin really soft. I was excited to find a recipe for them. Thanks so much for dropping by!!

WOW. Christmas shopping ideas for 2011 was just handled. Thanks. My 13 year old daughter will have a blast making these. We made homemade bath salts last year, but nothing as exotic as your ideas.

Tell me true if someone can really put on the chocolate mask and not sneak a little lick!
