Crochet Shells Face Mask
Moira has been crocheting since she was 14 years old. She loves experimenting with small crochet projects.
The plethora of crochet face masks out now mostly features basic stitches. However, face masks are going to be a necessity and we can't stay basic forever.
Try crocheting a face mask using solid shell stitches. This will be a more practical sampler than a washcloth under the pandemic episode of our history.

Written Pattern
Foundation Chain (FC): Ch 40.
Row 1: Sk 1 ch, 17 sc, hdc, (3 dc in same st) 3x, hdc, 17 sc.
Row 2: Ch 1, 4 sc, 3 hdc, [sc, sk 2 sts, (5 dc in same st)] 5x, sc, 3 hdc, 4 sc.
Row 3: Ch 1, 4 sc, 3 hdc, 3dc in sc, [sc in middle dc of 5-dc group 5 dc in sc] 5x, sc in middle dc of 5-dc group, 3 dc in sc, 3 hdc, 4 sc.
Row 4: Ch 1, 4 sc, 3 hdc, sc in dc, [5 dc in sc, sc in middle dc of 5-dc group] 5x, sc in sc, 3 dc in 3dctog, 3 hdc, 4sc.
Row 5: Ch 1, 4 sc, 3 hdc, [sc, ch 2, 5dctog, ch 3] 5x, sc, 3 hdc, 4 sc.
Row 6-13: Repeat Row 2-5. Work the 5dc groups of Row 2 on the sc's.
Row 14: Ch 1, 17 sc, hdc, (3dctog) 3x, hdc, 17 sc.
Working the ear handles:
Ch 23, sl st all stitches of FC,
ch 23, sl st all stitches of Row 14,
25 sc in ch-23 sp, sl st all stitches of FC,
25 sc in ch-23 sp, sl st all stitches of Row 14.
Weave in loose ends.
