A 30-Minute Earring to Crochet

This is a special pattern for me because this is the pattern I was perfecting that dreadful night when a huge flash flood hit our city, killing all our 9 chicks and thousands of people living beside the Cagayan de Oro river.

Though there was no electricity, an angel kept prodding me to go on crocheting in flickering candlelight. God really works in mysterious ways just to keep my baby dry on that night. Thank you, God.

This is the 9th pattern in my 30-Minute Earrings to Crochet series and the 4th among the circular motifs.

Cover Hub: 30-Minute Earrings to Crochet

Skill Level: EASY

crochet-edging-1

MEASUREMENT:

Motif only

DIAMETER: 5 cm

SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • single crochet, double crochet, slip stitches
  • working in rounds
  • special stitch: long single crochet (lsc)

MATERIALS:

Due to the suggestion of a fellow Raveler, I crocheted this pair using three strands of polyester sewing thread of the same color - golden yellow, still using a #10 (1.00mm) steel hook.

ABBREVIATIONS:

  • ch - chain
  • sl st - slip stitch
  • sc - single crochet
  • sk - skip
  • st - stitch
  • dc - double crochet
  • tr - treble crochet
  • sp - space
  • lsc - long single crochet (special stitch)

Special Stitch: LONG SC (lsc)

Don't be scared - the long single crochet is just an sc that is anchored one or more rows below the one you are currently working on. This is a beautiful stitch that creates solid areas in a lacy pattern such as this one.

I'm very happy for you Alicia! I looked at your circle #4 and its very cute.

Alicia on December 05, 2013:

I just want to say thank you so much for this pattern - and all of the others! This is my first ever attempt at crocheting with anything smaller than 4ply and it has worked out beautifully although it did take me more like an hour and a bit for one rather than half an hour but I put that down to inexperience. You can see the first one on my blog http://allhappinessishomemade.wordpress.com/2013/1...

These are beautiful! I can't wait to give this pattern a try! I love thread crochet but have only used size 80 as the smallest. I tried using three strands with a different pattern and loved the results. I will give your pattern a try using one strand of metallic gold thread. Thanks!! Voted Up!

I used a No. 6 steel hook and I mentioned that in the cover hub. Any other vital information is in the cover hub. Please refer to it.

I'm having a lot of trouble with these...... what size hook did you use?

Moira Durano-Abesmo (author) from Sagay, Camiguin, Philippines on February 12, 2012:

So she really is the bible translator (I googled her name). Kagayanen is a language spoken in Palawan, still in my country but not in my city. We speak Visayan.

Kate H on February 12, 2012:

I guess I should have asked if your city name has any relationship to the Kagayanen language and people. :) It looked similar. Jacqueline has worked with the Kagayanen people for many years doing translation work.

Thank you, Kate H!

I'm afraid I don't know Jacqueline Huggins. What does she do?

Kate H on February 10, 2012:

Love the earrings, Moira! Do you know Jacqueline Huggins? :)

Very pretty earrings. Easily followed directions.

Thanks GinnyLee!

I have considered selling on Etsy. But, I'm not the entrepreneurial type; I know selling on Etsy will make me frustrated. I'm earning very well here on Hubpages. Last January my earnings hit $85 and its growing steadily.

With all this things in consideration, I've concluded that I'll earn more by writing free crochet patterns here on HP. ",)
