Fig.1 shows a Kolam pattern known as "IDAYAK KAMLAM". "Idayam" means "Heart", the word "Kamalam" denotes "Lotus". In this Kolam the heart is represented by Lotus. Here the kolam is based on dots drawn in 8 lines radiating from the centre towards 8 directions with 45 degrees between the adjacent ones. Several variations exists in this type of kolam. The pattern shown below uses an arrangement of dots with 5 dots in an arm. This count does not include the centre dot.
This kolam is drawn with a single line that goes through all the dots to form a representation of lotus flower and Hindu people believe that drawing this kolam in one go without removing the hand out is religiously beneficial.
Method of drawing the above Kolam is shown graphically in Fig.2 as a slide show. Press the arrow below the image to start the slide show.

I am drawing this since my childhood
Simple would be to join the dots in the order 12453 in the subsequent lines
And continue again in the same order

Sita, Thanks for your visit to my hub. I drew the kolams in this hub using AUTOCAD drawing software. First I draw in autocad and later fine tune in PHOTOSHOP software.
