5 Great Ways to Decorate Easter Eggs

Decorating Easter Eggs

Easter is a religious time for most people, but for little kids it's really more about the chocolate and all the fun brightly coloured eggs....and the easter bunny...and all the little chicks...or is that just me! Anyway, for kids there is nothing more fun than an afternoon spent decorating easter eggs, whether at home with their parents/grandparents or at school with their teachers and friends. Getting creative on these delicate little eggshell canvas's is great fun and the possibilities are endless.

So to help you narrow down your medium of craft options I have found 5 of my favourite decorating techniques online and compiled them in this handy article for you. Sadly I can't take credit for any of these wonderful Easter Egg craft ideas or creations, I found them all dotted across the internet on various sites and blogs, you will find the original sources linked in each of the sections below.

I hope you find a great idea for you and your little ones to decorate some easter eggs, or at least get a little inspiration from what you will find below. Have fun crafting and have a Happy Easter.

Colourful Crayon Melted Easter Eggs

I found this great kid friendly Easter Egg DIY over on SAS Interiors. It is super simple and the kids will have a great time creating patterns and decorating eggs in beautifully coloured creations. And all you need is a few eggs and a pack of crayons! Just be careful with this as the eggs will need to be hot for the crayons to melt onto the surface.

Chalk Board Easter Eggs

This is a great way to allow the kids to decorate their own eggs, once you have prepared the eggs by blowing them and painting them with chalk board paint, you can leave the kids get creative. Plus why just use white chalk, you can get packs of chalk in a multitude of colours now, so the eggs can be decorated in a rainbow of colours. Plus if you get bored of the design you can always wash it off and do it again!! Hours or even days of creative fun! You'll find this brilliant idea on Oleander and Palm.

The patterns on these eggs is just unbelievable! Would you believe these designs were made by simply wrapping eggs in 100% silk ties then boiling them! Amazing! This was a little DIY I came across on a site called Our Best Bites, it is such a simple idea, and a cheap one considering you can pick up silk ties in charity/thrift shops for just a few pounds/dollars. Plus every egg will come out differently! Granted this isn't one that the kids will really be able to help with, but I am sure they will be wowed when they see the stunning designs that will appear when you unwrap the eggs!

Washi Tape Easter Eggs

Washi Tape is a pretty amazing invention in my books, and is perfect for so many crafts! This is one of them. I found this great little Easter Egg DIY over on a blog called Lovely Indeed (she has lots more great DIY's!!) and I just loved it. Plus the scope with this DIY is huge as you can get so many different types and patterns of wash tape that the possibilities are endless! You can let the kids snip away at a roll of tape and make some fun patterns, or if you're feeling creative you could try cutting some little designs and patterns yourself.

Baking Powder Easter Egg DIY

Baking Powder Easter Eggs

This was a little craft I found over on the kid friendly blog Mess for Less. I remember doing something similar to this when I was a kid in school, I mean who doesn't love pouring vinegar on baking soda and watching it all bubble up! This is just made even better by the coloured paint powder. This is a fun craft that the kids will think is magic, and older kids might even get to learn a bit of science too! The end result is an almost marbled/speckled look where the powder dye has dried in places, let the kids experiment with different powder combinations to see what colours and patterns they can make on the eggs shell.

Here's a great video on dying eggs too!
