Free Patterns for the Knifty Knitter Long Looms

You can make scarves, leg warmers, shawls, blankets, crafts and more using the Knifty Knitter long looms. If you've ever considered donating your knit, the long looms can be used to make lap blankets for nursing homes or scarves for a homeless shelter. Below is a collection of free patterns specifically for the set of long Knifty Knitter looms.

There are knit stitches that can only be done on long looms because they are double panel knit stitches. These stitches can't be made on a round loom. You'll find a few of these stitches included in the patterns.

Don't have any Knifty Knitter long looms? You can substitute other brands of long looms for these patterns, such as the Boye or Darice, but be sure the loom you choose is the same width.

Potholder for the Knifty Knitter 10 Inch Loom

This potholder is knitted in a continuous spiral pattern along the perimeter of the pink loom. The no wrap stitch is used to create a tight knit. The finished potholder is double in thickness, so it creates a nice barrier from the heat of pots and pans.

The eight wrap is the basic method for loom knitting a scarf. This pattern is ideal for beginners making their first scarf. For a lighter scarf, use only one yarn. For a heavier scarf, hold 2 yarns together as one as you wrap your loom.

What Is Your Favorite Project for the Long Looms?

Eight Wrap

The eight wrap is a very common cast on for the long looms. Knit created with the eight wrap is considered "double panel knit" because it is twice the thickness as knitting along only one side of the loom. This is my YouTube video explaining how to do it. It's great for making scarves and blankets.

I have never tried this but want to start making blankets and scarfs.

hsschulte (author) on January 22, 2018:

cmmOSU81, It's normal for the knit to be smaller than the loom. It's supposed to happen that way. Wrapping more loosely will minimize it, but you don't want to prevent it. The finished knit would be too loosely woven.

cmmOSU81 from Dublin, Ohio on February 21, 2015:

My daughter got a loom recently and got about 10 rows into a scarf with one of those 8-wrap patterns, and the center of the loom is pulled in tighter than the outer edges. That is, in the center, the two sides of the loom are pulled close to each other. I think she must have the 15-inch loom. Do you have any tips for how to prevent that in the future?

hsschulte (author) on May 08, 2014:

@chocstar6251: This may help: https://app.box.com/shared/0f1gnqxz37 It's for the yellow round loom.

anonymous on July 09, 2011:

Ladies, these are a lot of fun! I made my grandson a baby afghan on the round looms and have just started experimenting with the long looms. Give them a try! I love them!!!

Frischy from Kentucky, USA on June 06, 2011:

I have been a knitter for more than 30 years, but I have never seen these kinds of looms before. It is very interesting, especially considering all the different things you can make. I never would have thought you could make that very cute bunny on a loom like this. Amazing! Great lens!

Peggy Hazelwood from Desert Southwest, U.S.A. on June 06, 2011:

@ajtyne: I love those potholders, AJ! This looks like fun too!

AJ from North Carolina on June 06, 2011:

I never saw this before! Well, I think I saw them, but I was thinking it was something like those pot holders we made in 1st grade. Apparently I thought wrong -- these are nice looking, really knitted looking!
