Olivers 8th Birthday

Well I'll be blowed its the 7th of May 2017 and its my birthday and I have reached the ripe old age of eight !

My mum, Oliversmum, of course what else could it be ? sat me down and told me that in human years I would be about 56 years old and that is why my hair is going grey, yeah right I bet she is putting something in that stuff she washes me with !

Anyhow with that she then told me that with that maturity of age I would have to start behaving more like a gentleman and become more distinguished ? Oh yeah can you image that ? me behaving like a gentleman Ha Ha ...

With that I just cocked my head on one side and give her that quizzical look !!! ( It works every time ) and thought 'Whatever, what time does the party start' ?

She smiled, looked at Dad and shrugged her shoulders, then out came the treats :)

Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes and look forward to seeing you all again next year !

Your mate Oliver.

Oliver is Celebrating His 6th Birthday

Update :

Today the 7th of May 2015 is a day of celebration!

Oliver is celebrating his 6th Birthday and he said to tell all of his friends on the Internet that he is really enjoying his special treats!

(cough cough ) Oh, and he also said to tell you that he appreciates all the special treatment he received from his Mum and Dad, especially the bath and grooming that he got (put up with) yesterday.

Hi, I'm a Puppy and My Name is "Oliver"

Hi, I'm a Puppy and my name is "Oliver". I'm a 'Shihpoo'.

My mum is a Shih-Tzu and my dad is a Toy Poodle.

This is a true story about my life with my new family.
I was born on a Farm way out in the countryside in a town called "Mirboo North", down Bairnsdale/ Lakes Entrance way. I was told this is a great place to live because the air here is clear and the climate is wonderful for us growing puppies!

My Brothers, Sister's and I come from a line of Shih-Tzu and Toy Poodles (we thought we were Schnoodles or Schmoodles but now we have been told we are Shihpoos) were having a lot of fun running around and playing together, as well as sleeping a lot and eating heaps.

Look at me I'm Oliver and I'm a shihpoo. Now thats a cross shih-tzu, Toy poodle. Ain't I cute?

Look at me I'm Oliver and I'm a shihpoo. Now thats a cross shih-tzu, Toy poodle. Ain't I cute?

Oliver's New Life Begins

One day a strange car pulled up in the driveway. I was about 11 weeks old, it was then my Foster Mum told me it was time for me to go and live with a new family. Well that sounded exciting and wonderful but also a little frightening and sad at the same time.

She also told me I would be going for a ride in a car, have my very own warm and cosy bed, plus all new toys just for me and that we would be staying with friends at the Lakes for a week (what are the Lakes?) where they had a Schnauzer.

He's a "boy"! The same as me! They said I could play with him!

Then I would be going to my new home! So much information, how will I remember it all?

I was a little apprehensive at first!

I then started thinking who are these folks, I don't known them, should I go with strangers, I guess They look OK !

Everything will be fine so don't worry, at the same time crossing my paws.
Oh. I nearly forgot, My new mum and dad named me "Oliver" I believe it suit's me and makes me feel very brave and important.

Oliver Very Apprehensive

I love going for drives with my Mum and Dad

Oliver and Chris

My brother Chris is a Shihpoo as well. He is a bit shy and will not look at the camera!

My brother Chris is a Shihpoo as well. He is a bit shy and will not look at the camera!

Oliver Meets His Brother

My Brother, whom friends of ours adopted, looks just like me, his name is "Chris". His mum and Dad have a Yacht and he goes sailing a lot. He looks cute in his life jacket.
Each time we go to The Lakes on holiday we catch up and share what is going on in our lives. We have a great time together. That's enough about him !

Oliver's Story Continues

Now I am tired, so my Mum and Dad will tell you the rest ( so far) cause I am still only a Baby and I need a lot of sleep, so that I can grow up to be fit and healthy, and be able to play with my new best friends one is a Blue Heeler and the other a schnauzer, They are really big, but very nice to me.

Mum and Dad were a bit slow getting around to telling their version of my story, so now that I have had a big sleep, my dinner has been digested and I have been outside to do you know what I am ready to continue all by myself without their help, anyway it will be more fun and interesting coming from me first hand. I think so anyway.

Oliver Meets Flipper

My buddy from Home. He is an Australian Blue Heeler called Flipper and I am always nicking his food!

Oliver meets Rommey

We often drop into my mates place at Lakes Entrance for coffee. Whatever that is?

We often drop into my mates place at Lakes Entrance for coffee. Whatever that is?

Oliver Has Puppy Training

I was booked in to Puppy Training School, that was very interesting.

Being taught to sit, stay, and to be nice to all the other puppies, (they were all bigger than me) and to come when called, that was not to my liking, why should I, when you are in the middle of doing something that you like, couldn't see the point in stopping and going somewhere that you didn't want to.

Well that soon changed, they offered me Liver treats or small pieces of Kabana and I soon got the hang of it.
I passed my training with flying colors and they gave me a certificate which mum and dad framed and hung on the wall.

Oliver Settles in at Home

I spend a lot of time out doors playing with my friend Flipper, I jump all over him, when he is laying down relaxing and he doesn't even growl at me. not even when I nick his food, so I just keep doing it until my mum or dad catch me, then I'm in a bit of trouble.
We go for long walks over in the Sporting Complex, where there are lakes with birds and ducks, also Rabbits live over there and lots of wildlife. oh but I'm not allowed to chase any of these animals , because well trained puppies don't do things like that. oh dear once I forgot, only once.
We also go down to our back paddock and I run through the grass, with my beautiful tail flying behind me, it is such fun. I love my mum and dad.

Naughty Oliver

I often hear my Mum and Dad say "You are a naughty boy Oliver" and I think to myself "hey I'm a Shihpoo isn't that what we do?"

I often hear my Mum and Dad say "You are a naughty boy Oliver" and I think to myself "hey I'm a Shihpoo isn't that what we do?"

Oliver Can Still be Naughty

Sometimes I get into just a little trouble they say "you are a Naughty Boy Oliver" well I have a very good excuse for what they are growling at me for. Its blowing a gale, freezing cold and raining like the dickens. they have put me outside to do woopsie that's what they call it , So that's what I do "on the back porch", now I ask you, would you want to get a wet tooshie or wet feet. I bet you wouldn't, well neither did I. Oh well they clean it up and get over it, until the next time I hear "you are a naughty boy Oliver".

Oh goodness when will I ever learn, soon I hope, being in trouble is not much fun.

I have a bath every two weeks, ( I roll in every bit of smelly stuff that I can find it feels so good). But oh dear I do hate getting wet,but I love being dried with the hair dryer, And I get clipped every 6 weeks, plus have my nails cut and my ears cleaned. I do smell sweet after all that, but boy it does make me very tired.

I have just had my first birthday and got lots of presents. A new bed shaped like a house, it is so comfortable and I can snuggle up in it, also a new warm blanket, some great toys and organic bones to keep my teeth nice and white, A new fancy collar and a lovely Blue Harness it was a great day with a lot more pampering than usual, It was such fun.

Oliver has 'Other Names'

I did have a little problem with my name for a while I was sure it was Oliver, but on many occasions they called me "Primrose" I thought that pretty strange, that's a girl's name.

I have since got to the bottom of it.

Primrose was my mum and dads little dog, who got very sick and passed away. she was cremated and sits on top of the cabinet in a beautiful polished wooden box surrounded by her favorite toys. I am not allowed to play with her toys, that's fine by me, I do have lots of my own.
Another thing that worries me a little, some folks call me Ollie, my mum doesn't like it, neither do I, so I hope they stop doing that. If I ask them nicely maybe they will!

Goodbye For Now

Now I have to say Goodnight. I am allowed on the end of mum and dad's bed, I love their bed, only until they turn the light out. Then they tuck me into my bed and I dream of what my friend Flipper and I will do tomorrow.

"Goodnight everyone, sleep tight".

I do hope you enjoy reading my story, on what it is like being a Shih Tzu/Toy Poodle Puppy. :) :) :)

P.S. I have asked my mum if I dictate the replies to any comments I may receive would she type them for me and she said yes. yap, yap, that's a load off my mind. Bye. "Oliver"

Nancy and Olive Hi. Nice to meet you.

Olive your parents were the same breed as mine, the only difference is that my dad is a toy poodle.

You look like me, we could trick our mum and dad, they might not know which one is which, just joking.

I am 2 years old now, and you are thirteen, wow you have done and know a lot more than me, I am still learning new things every day.

My favorite place to sleep is next to my mum and dad as well. Your mum sounds like a very special person. Stay happy and keep warm, it,s winter over here and very cold and wet. Do you like getting wet, cause I sure don't.

Thank you for your beautiful comment, and am glad that you liked my story. Bye for now. Love "Oliver"

Nancy and Olive on June 24, 2011:

That was a great story and I have a shih poo named Olive. She looks very much like Oliver although she is now 13 years old, getting to be an old girl for sure but she can still run with the best of them. Olive's mother was the shih tzu who was black and white and her dad was the minature poodle and he was all white. Olive turned out looking like Oliver but not the white on her. They are very good dogs and LOVE sleeping anywhere next to Mommy. Have a wonderful life Oliver.....Love Nancy and Olive

Twilight Lawns. Hi. Yes I did ask. Thank you so much for your reply. Now I am at a loss for words.

So she is a beautiful little lady, named after a princess, taken from your favorite Opera, that is pretty special.

Thanks again. :) :)

No, not Elizabeth, the Queen, but Elisabeth de Valois, Princess of France, once married to Philip II of Spain… taken from my favourite Opera by Verdi: Don Carlo. Sounds a bit pretentious, but you did ask.

oliversmum (author) from australia on January 25, 2011:

Twilight Lawns. Hi. Thank you.

It's great to know that you liked my story.

Elisabeth sounds like a beautiful little lady, is she named after the Queen, although she has an s not a z in her name.

I love to meet new friends and I do play nicely.

Thanks again for your lovely comment, especially the "handsome little guy". See you later. :) :) and a special :) for Elisabeth. "Oliver"

AliciaA. Hi. I am thrilled that you read my story to Misha and very excited that he liked it.

Please thank him for congratulating me on receiving my graduation certificate. I also congratulate him.

It would be great to play with Misha and Ryan(he is a very big boy) but that's OK. I also play nicely with other Animals. If things get a little too much I just run and hide in my bed.

Three cats I'd love to meet them. I don't have any Feline friends. My mum loves Ragdoll Cats, and I promise to be calm and not chase them, because I would hear " you are a naughty boy Oliver" if I was not nice.

Thank you so much for your beautiful comment.:) :) "Oliver" and one :) each for all my new friends.

Linda Crampton from British Columbia, Canada on December 05, 2010:

Thank you Oliver for a lovely story. I read it to my black labrador Misha and he told me that it was very interesting. Misha went to school and got a graduation certificate as well – he asked me to pass on his congratulations to you. Misha would like to play with you and introduce you to his big brother Ryan, who is a Leonberger. They would love you to join their games – the more the merrier! Misha would also like you to meet his three cat brothers. They like dogs, but you would have to be quiet and calm when you met them or they would run and hide.

oliversmum (author) from australia on December 02, 2010:

AngRose. Hi. I am also excited about meeting you.

It would be great to play with Amos. I have never met a Chocolate Labrador, He is also very gentle, like my friend Flipper, he is a Blue Heeler. Most Dogs that I have met all seem to be bigger than me, but I make up for that, my mum tells me that my ego is larger than I am, but she loves me to bits anyway.

Thanks to you and Amos for dropping by and reading my story. Bye for now.:) :) "Oliver" oh almost forgot :) for Amos

AngRose on December 01, 2010:

I am very pleased to make your acquaintance Oliver..you are an absolutely adorable little man! Hello Clancey, your name is special like mine. You don't mind if your mum pays attention to me, that's great, cause its ok for my mum to do the same with you. That's a deal.

No you are not an "old man". I would love to play with you and learn new things, would you teach me.

I am being patient and our training sessions are going well Thanks for the advice.

It was really wonderful to meet you and thanks heaps for the awesome and rating. I am beside myself with excitement. See you later.:) :) and one for your mum :)

Ohhhhh Oliver - I just love you so much. You are a very good writer too. I read your story to Clancey, my shih tzu. He doesn't much like other dogs, but he said he would like you and would even be ok if I made a fuss over you. His name is Clancey and he is supposed to be an "old man"...but he thinks he is still a young dog like you. Dolores Monet. Hi. Thank you. You are right, sometimes when we get Puppies or any baby Animal for that matter, we tend to treat them like little humans, which is not quiet right. I am guilty of that.

Writing this hub we tried to tell it from Oliver's side.

I hope we got it somewhere near right.

He is a beautiful little guy and I believe he know's it.

oliversmum - a great idea to post a hub from the vantage point of the puppy. When we get a cute little baby animal,we must remember that it is a baby and understands the world from the perspective of that animal. Oliver is adorable!

Om Paramapoonya. Hi. Woof Woof back at ya, I'm wagging my tail too. I am so happy that you liked my story.

I am getting used to mum and dad calling out "Primrose" sorry I mean "Oliver" One day they might get it right the first time.

Thank you for saying my mum is a good hubber, she is a good mum as well, and I am also happy that reading my story made you smile.

Suny51. Hi. It is 2.30pm here. Thank you.

I try very hard not to be naughty. I listen to what my mum and dad say, but oh dear sometimes it goes in one ear and out the other, but they love me to bits anyway.

As always, I do appreciate you dropping by and leaving such a lovely comment. Thank you once again. :) :) "Oliver"

Earnestshub. Hi. Thank you. I'm wagging my tail can you see.

Wow that would be great, if we could make that happen, every dog could have it's own bed and plenty of food, I like that idea.

Oh I thought everyone lived like me. It is a great life and my Mum and Dad tell me that I am pretty special.

Thank you very much for reading my story and leaving a comment. To me that's special. :) :) "Oliver"

Darlene Sabella. Hi. Thank you.

You have a Black Toy Poodle at your house like me. I could play with he/she, I do like to meet new friends and I play nice. But a cat, I don't know anything about cats.

You are right, I could not imagine our home without an our Dog's to love and pamper, they are part of our family.

Thanks again for your lovely comment and your thumbs up. :) :) "Oliver"
