Lady Featherstone Kitty
Meet Lady Featherstone
Hello. My name is Lady, Lady Featherstone that is. It's pronounced feather-stun (like my husband's English Aunt's family says it).
Would you like to to know how I came to my forever home? Like most of you, I'm a mom too - 3 kids, and boy have they been a handful. Wouldn't trade them for anything though (well, no - not really).
From the start I had a difficult life. The first people I lived with didn't spend much time with me and I don't want to admit they were abusive, but let's say, they didn't think much of me. Because I was afraid of them and the things they put me through I came to have some physical and emotional problems. It's been a while and I'm getting better, but sometimes it's a bit tough.
Maybe you can visit with me for a little while. I promise not to take too much of your time. But it would be nice to make a few new friends.

Lady on the Sidewalk - My fur was the color of sea green and falling out. I had no strength.
Story told by Lady via her caregiver.
I'm so embarrassed for you to see me like this! My hair was a mess, very thin practically (coming out in clumps), and I had a bit of a pong to me. Ok, I didn't need to tell you that part, but you probably figured that out for yourself anyway.
I was very tired from having my babies, after all I was only a year old myself. My owners left me alone for weeks at a time with only some dog food left in a car port. I was starving and needed to eat, but I was not in any shape to feed my litter. God sent me to this walkway where I met some kind people who began to feed me on their steps.
By now I had begun to come around more. One day as the nice woman was opening the door I ran inside her house and scampered to the corner. "If I could just get some sleep," I thought. I napped for several hours with the people in the house not saying a word. It was if they knew something was wrong, so they just let me come in and rest. When I gained some strength I got up and they opened the door. This would happen for several weeks, but all the while I was learning I could trust them.
One of my babies was very sick, so I started to bring them to the door whenever I needed to eat. They were still nursing, but I knew I would get help here. The man of the house noticed that one of my boys started following him. Several times he would bring him back to the place I had hid my babies, but he wouldn't stay put. The man would run and my son would just run faster. It was pretty funny now that I think of it.

Til' the storm passed by
Saved from the Tornado and Storm
It was in the middle of a terrible storm and tornado warning that I had to move my babies to shelter. I had already moved one under a nearby porch. It wasn't the house where I was eating, but near where I had kept my babies.
As I was crossing the road with one in my mouth I dropped my baby girl. When I tried to gather her in my mouth again, the lady that was feeding me came running over and scooped my baby and me up in her arms. She had noticed us while looking out the window anxiously waiting for her husband to get home.
She took us into her house and ran back out the door to get one of my babies that was in the driveway (it was my son that always followed the man). Now two of my babies were inside, but I still had the one I already put under the porch.
The woman couldn't get him to come out, so she came back inside and got some food. It took quite a while of coaxing, but eventually she was able to pull him out from under the porch. It was my son who was sick. We were safe inside and out of the storm. Now what?

Only God can save him now.
This is one of my sons (the one with his long tail sort of like mine. My girl is on the left of him). I held him tight and did what I could for as long as I could. His fur was as spindly as mine, but it looked like he wasn't going to make it.
All of my kids were undernourished, full of fleas and tapeworms. However he was very tiny, actually the smallest of the litter and he didn't move around much.

Don't forget the catnip.

My first playhouse. I still like it.
I have a real bed! - Now I can get some sleep.
Catgo! Momba, Catwaltz, I can do them all. Lady is a great dancer.
I've been told that I am an "excellent" dancer, but I don't want to brag. I can do almost every kind of dance, but I'm not into R & B or Bluegrass (much anyway).
I do like Jazz though. Guess that's a given - duh! My new Dad isn't a good dancer at all, he can barely keep a beat. But my mom - she rocks. I do my best dancing with her.
Lady Likes to Dance
Mouth issues! Can you relate? - An old "war" injury so to speak.
Getting Good Food Makes A Difference
Having the right food when you are a baby makes all the difference in the world as to how you turn out as an adult. Since I didn't have the proper nourishment when I was growing and nursing, I have suffered some health issues and set backs.
Here you can see that I'm filling out ok, but still don't have that "glow" or shine to my fur. Not having the right vitamins for so long caused these problems to my skin, fur and teeth. They are things I have had to deal with for some time. Hey, but don't worry. My new parents are on it.
Friskies Canned Cat Food
Purina Cat Chow - Cat food I will eat. - This is a brand of cat food that I do like. SInce I do not go outdoors any more (& I'm glad), this works best for m
Treats I Likes - I prefer the crunchy kinds best.
Once in a while I will eat a treat, but usually not. My new parents try to find things I like.
On holidays and birthdays they may give me a treat of Friskies turkey and gravy pate'.
Whisker Lickin's Treats
Friskies Beachside Treats - a favorite!
My Toys .... Well, I Didn't Really Have the Time.
Being honest about how my life was, I'd have to say that playtime wasn't something I did much. I'm a very timid kitty. Most of the time I was hiding and trying to survive. It wasn't until long after I was placed in my new forever home that I learned to trust someone enough to play.
Now I have to be in the mood to play, and only when not too many animals or people are around. But when I do, believe me these toys are F-U-N!
My green blanket. You can see that after almost 3 years my hair has grown back.
Grooming Helped My Fur to Grow Back
Something that I have come to love is that my mom combs my hair many times a day. At first it wasn't a thing I liked not being used to having it combed, but the more she kept it clean and knot free, the more it felt good.
After a year the old dry unhealthy fur grew out and new healthy fur grew. Using a brush and comb removed the dead skin. Long hair isn't easy to keep tangle free, but daily grooming can take care of that problem.
These are the things she uses to help my fur say clean and looking good.

Pssst. Come closer.
This is a little personal.
I have a real problem with the litter box.
What is the problem?
I don't like using it. You see I didn't have one before, and the other cats keep me from using it or hit me when I am coming out. So I tend to do a no-no sometimes.
I really am trying. My parents have even put out another litter box for me. Wasn't that nice?
Every time I use it my new parents just say the nicest things to me. They have never gotten mad at me for "missing" (if you know what I mean).
Clevercat Top Entry Litterbox - Is this a solution for you?
Depending on your type cat, this litterbox may just be what you are looking for in your household.
It seems to keep most of the litter inside the box where you want it, right? However, some cats may still prefer the other kinds of litter boxes. You be the judge.
Please read the customer reviews to help you decide if this is the right box for you.
Kitty Color by Number
Action Please! Some still photos of me. - You can see I've lost that "greenish" look and am doing much better.
In the cage our first trip. - They were called "Jackals" because of their big ears.
Look Deep Inside the Cage
Jumpy is on the left. Jazzbo is on the right. Cutie is hiding in the back. Who is in the middle?

Jazzbo - the cute one.
Jumpy - the funny one.
and Cutie - the sensitive one.
Hey, we're not the Jonas brothers!
I take offense to that.
— says Jumpy!
The Triple Threat - Who is the baby? All things point to Jazz - the one in the middle.
Left to right: Cutie, Jazzbo, and Jumpy
Really, who is the cutest?
Lady has nothing to do with this, and takes no position in this poll.
She is entirely neutral.
My kids would make a big mess. - One thing they did at the rescue center foster house was play with us a lot. The lady held my babies all the time.
Wait a minute? Who is this? You'll have to wait and see..
Not funny, but I am a GREAT value!

As you can see, I love my new forever home, and they love me back. They were even so kind to keep my family together. Yes, my three kids are still with me. We are all one big happy family.
There are thousands of mom's like me who need a home with their kids. Please consider adopting a cat family if you can. It makes a world of difference. Believe me, I know.
Oh no - not surgery on my mouth! You can see why. Notice my nose & left eye.
This is me now - Lady - I am very shy, but friendly.
I had surgery on my mouth a few months ago, but I am up to eating again - just not as fast. Over all I'd say, I'm doing ok. No more hiding in car ports, houses or under porches wondering where my next meal is coming from or how am I going to care for my kids.
We're home now, thank God, and we're all doing ok.
Sorry about the lighting, but Lady is difficult to capture on film.
Please adopt a kitty. We promise to be good.

What a wonderful story. They are all just so beautiful and are really lucky to have such understanding, loving parents to keep them all safe, warm and pampurred (sorry, couldn't resist!) Any story about wonderful people who adopt and love rescue pets gets my heartstrings going. Interestingly, I woke up this morning feeling depressed and wishing I could adopt a little rescue again (it's been a few years, and with travelling, it's difficult to have pets). I miss my kitty so much. Thank you for taking care of your beautiful cats, and for loving them. It's people like you who make this world so much better. :)

@myraggededge: That is a bit funny isn't it. Part of my husband's family is from England and we just go by the way they say things. I guess like any place people say things differently. Thanks for letting me know though. I appreciate it.
myraggededge on March 05, 2013:
Lovely story. Gotta pick you up on the bit in your intro where you mention how the English pronounce 'Featherstone'. We actually say 'Fanshaw'. Weird but true :)

MizzMary on July 29, 2012:
I adopted a feral cat from a man in my neighborhood who was feeding and finding homes for them. He caught the mother cats, got them spayed and then released them again because they are just too wild to be kept by humans. The whole neighborhood contributes to feeding them. I still have that cat and I love him like a child. Great lens by the way, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Lady Featherstone, you sure do tell a cat's tale here and you do it very well with some real heart rending moments of time that you have shared. Like Kermit the Frog says, its not easy being green and I like how you point out that your nutrition while growing up and while carrying and caring for kittens took a toll on your health...but still you had a beauty that was seen by the man and the woman and now here you are, all together with two families becoming one, I love a happy ending! (I won't tell anyone about your little problem)
LynetteBell from Christchurch, New Zealand on July 01, 2012:

On a lighter note, I love the gif at the very bottom.

I think Lady Featherstone and her babies are absolutely gorgeous. An abused stray that I took in also had trouble hitting the litter box and I often wonder if that is why she had been so abused. I am so glad that you were able to rescue this sweet cat family.
