Desert Coloring Pages
One quarter of the earth is made up of deserts, which are areas which are not necessarily hot or completely sandy. They are dry, getting less than 6 inches (or 15 cm) of rain each year. They are found in every continent of the world except Antarctica.
Here are some record holders:
- the driest desert is the Atacama Desert in South America
- the hottest desert is the Sahara in Africa
- the coldest desert is the Gobi Desert in Asia
- the biggest desert is the Sahara in Africa

Desert Plants Coloring Pages
It is difficult for plants to survive in the desert because there is so little rainfall.Whenever it does rain, the plant needs to be able to store the water and protect it from thirsty animals. The cactus has fat, swollen stems which contain the moisture and this is protected by spines. Other plants have fat stems and leaves which store water. These are called succulents. (I have several of these growing in my garden in a spot which doesn't get much rain.)
