Zoanthid Corals - Colorful and Easy To Keep Corals For Saltwater Marine Reef Aquariums!

Zoanthids are soft corals that come in the basic round shape and all colors. Some can look like rainbow flowers. Others just one solid color with brown skirt.

When they have proper lighting, good water flow, and excellent water chemistry, zoanthids can multiply all over the rocks creating a rainbow effect.

Zoanthid corals are not too demanding they can survive many aquarium parameters such as swings in temperature or specific gravity. They are so hardy that they always remain open.

Below are the required saltwater aquarium parameters to keep your zoanthid soft corals happy and healthy!

Keeping your parameters stable are key to keeping a successful saltwater aquarium!

Aquarium Parameters:

  • Specific Gravity Range - 1.023 - 1.025
  • Calcium (Ca) - 400 to 420ppm
  • Magnesium (Mg) - 1350 to 1500ppm
  • Alkalinity - 8 to 12 dKH
  • Temperature - 78 to 80 o (F) Fahrenheit
  • Ammonia - 0ppm
  • Phosphate - 0 to 0.3ppm

Zoanthid corals can grow anywhere in your aquarium when provided with the correct lighting and water flow.

Since the ocean and sea has lots of waves or water movement, you need to create the same effect in your home aquarium. Zoanthids prefer lighting that is not too intense or bright. They also prefer waves or water movement that is not so rough.

As a marine aquarist since 1992, zoanthid corals can reproduce and grow very quickly. Some clusters may grow faster than others. Some can die away over time only to grow back twice as big as the original. I've seen so many growth patterns since I began keeping these corals.
