Goldfish are omnivores, so whether they are on a high protein diet or veggie green based diet, it is a good idea to occasionally give goldfish healthy snacks. Throwing a tasty treat into that water besides the usual flake food or pellets will keep those happy fins vivacious and healthy.

Slices of cucumber is one of the tastiest snacks to feed goldfish. Cucumber is rich in vitamin C and nutrients like Vitamin K and Magnesium; hence it is also a popular choice of snack for freshwater fish. It is best to cut the cucumbers into slices, some aquatic species have been known to chew on raw cucumber, however you may blanch the slices to make the vegetable softer. Peas

Peas are a beneficial treat for goldfish. This vegetable is a good source of fiber for goldfish and help with constipation and swim bladder problems. Giving this snack to goldfish every now and then will help the digestion of goldfish remain healthy. You may feed them freshly cooked peas or prepare frozen peas to feed them, the skin of the peas is not good for them, so when preparing peas you must remove the skin. You may cook peas and freeze a good amount of them for long term use. Buying a precooked frozen bag of organic green peas from Trader Joes is a more convenient option. Simply drop the frozen peas in warm water and remove the skin, then feed them to the fish. Goldfish love peas and it is a nutritional snack for them!

Egg

Egg is a good source of protein for goldfish. Especially the egg yolk, though the egg white can be eaten by the fish as well. Egg yolk is a common food for fish fry though the yolk is also a beneficial component for adult or young fish. It is best to boil the egg before feeding to fish. Some fish keepers will feed raw egg yolk to goldfish, but that will make quite a mess in the tank. It is also possible to steam egg and then feed to the fish. Remember to remove uneaten food from the tank and be sure to do a water change if you have a small aquarium after feeding fish egg, because the decaying yolk will spike the nitrates and toxins in the tank. Daphnia

Live food is an excellent source of protein for goldfish. Daphnia is beneficial for goldfish fry; it is a rich source of protein and helps with the growth and development of baby fish. Live food also makes for a healthy occasional snack for adult fish. Brine shrimp and Daphnia are a great treat for goldfish. Some fish keepers grow brine shrimp, Daphnia however is a freshwater crustacean, so they are bit easier to cultivate for fish. These tiny little crustaceans are a tasty delicacy for goldfish as well as other freshwater species in the aquarium. Goldfish will thrive on this high protein snack!

Orange

Goldfish will go crazy for this fruity snack, especially during the summer months. Peel the skin off the orange; goldfish like the juicy part of the orange so you may have to cut the fruit into slices or small pieces. Remove the white around the pieces of the inside of the orange, goldfish have difficulty chewing through that part. The orange fruit is one of the healthiest and delicious snacks to occasionally give your goldfish.

Spinach

Leafy greens are an excellent treat for goldfish. Goldfish love to chew through leafy plants or veggies. Spinach is a great leafy veggie to feed them, spinach is a source of minerals and Vitamin C for goldfish. Be sure to barely blanch the spinach leaves and place in the aquarium. You may also feed goldfish Butter Lettuce. I also find that goldfish love to chew on microgreens. Spinach is a healthy choice of a leafy snack to feed goldfish.

Dried Seaweed

Dried Seaweed is rich in nutrients and a flavorful snack to feed goldfish. Dry sheets of seaweed are sold in pet shops, if you purchase dried seaweed from the supermarket be sure it does not contain salt or flavorings. Dry seaweed is a tasty treat to occasionally feed goldfish. You may break pieces of it off and throw to the fish or place seaweed inside the tank with an aquarium clip. This sea plant is a tasty and nutritional food to keep for goldfish.
