The Pomeranian is a fluffy little dog from the toy category of dogs, originated from the Pomerania region in north-west Poland and Northwest Germany. Its a Spitz type dog descendant from of powerful wolf Spitz-type dogs of the Arctic, and shows the inherited agility, determination and will power of his ancestors and also called "The little dog who think he can".

Earlier the German Spitz and Pomeranians were considered the same dogs. since mid-1980’s, they were splited into three categories based on size,

  • Klein
  • Mittle
  • and Pomeranian

Weight: 7 -20 Pounds, Height: 12 - 20 Inches

Throwback Pomeranian is an unofficial term, the dog that grow a lot bigger than a normal Pomeranian are called throwback. Such dogs are often mixed breed, and not recognized and accepted by any major Kennel.

The fox Pomeranian has a long pointed muzzle and short erected ears that give a fox-like appearance. Though their muzzle and ears look similar to a fox, but their eyes look different than foxes, whether fox has small and flat eyes, Pomeranian has bigger and rounded eyes.

The "baby doll" Pomeranian's face and muzzle is shorter than fox face Pomeranian, but larger than teddy bear dogs. Which seems like a baby doll toy for the kids. It's considered as a pure breed Pomeranian.

The Pomeranian have abundant textured double coat, extending over the chest and shoulders and the top coat forms a ruff of fur on the neck, and fringe of feathery hair on the hindquarters.

The Pomeranian is alert in character, delightful, lively dog that exhibits intelligence in expression, being extroverted and inquisitive by nature.

Temperament

Pomeranian is very energetic, intelligent and loyal and protective towards its human family and eager to learn and excels in obedience training. They are territorial dogs thus usually bark when they hear noises or suspect unusual.

Compatibility with Other Pets

Pomeranian is a playful and friendly dog but need early socialization and training, else can be aggressive with other dogs and companion animals to try to prove him alpha.

Compatibility with Children

Its a playful dog that is devoted to family and reliable with children. But it is suspicious and inquisitive by nature, who should be introduced carefully to strangers.

Pomeranian is a sturdy dog that need average grooming, good diet and appropriate exercise.

They have few health problems and need regular vet visit, the common health deases are luxating patellas (kneecaps that slip out of place), hypothyroidism, collapsing tracheas, congestive heart failure, seizures, and the genetic disease alopecia X, a skin condition colloquially known as "black skin disease", which causes the dog's skin to turn black and lose all or most of its hair.
