Our Pets are Treasured Gifts

My pets are my four-legged children. I was 2 years old when I got my first puppy. I named him Rusty because of the brown stripe on his nose.

Crash Tests for Pet Crates and Carriers

Pets and Travel Safety

When traveling with your pet(s) a long distance or just to a grooming or a veterinarian appointment; protect them with one of the best proven pet carriers on the market. I chose this for my pets Pet Ego Forma Frame Jet Set Carrier with ISOFIX-Latch Connection because it one of the three winners.

Subaru of United States of America, Inc. And the Center for Pet Safety (CPS), tested Pet Crates and Carriers and three emerged as the winners.

The Other Two are:

  1. Gunner Kennels G1 Intermediate with 8' Tie Down Straps
  2. Sleepypod Mobile Pet Bed with PPRS Handilock

I thank the Center for Pet Safety and Subaru of American for caring enough to do the very best for our pets. Without people who researched and conducted test on pet products; I would be lost in the sea of indecision.

Sweetie Angel and KeeKee

Sweetie Angel and KeeKee

Our Road Traffic.

We lived on a country road, but it does not mean the traffic is not heavy because our road is very popular. Popular with log trucks, rock trucks, gas trucks, water and milk trucks. Plus, horse vans, farming equipment, to heavy equipment.

The nearest school is 13 miles from our home, so we see school buses on our road daily. This is why we are so protective of our pets, our property is not completely fenced in. So, we watch them very carefully and are always outside with them. Our KeeKee and Sweetie Angel are the best of friends, and they love to walk together in our yard. They are sharing a secret today, one that they can only understand.

King of the Our Yard

King of the Our Yard

KeeKee Is the King of the Yard

KeeKee has always been the sweetest ball of furry love anyone could want. I am very lucky to have his love.

He is always there to follow and lead when we all go for a walk in our yard. He is the King of our Jungle. He owns half of our heart, and Sweetie Angel owns the other half.

Sweetie Loves To Be In The Kitchen

Sweetie loves to come into the kitchen when I am cooking---hoping that I will give him a taste of what he is smelling. He loves lettuce and I believe he can smell it a mile away. All I have to do is get it out of the frig and here he comes barking and fanning his Pomeranian Tail. He is so beautiful, and we are blessed to have him.

KeeKee Is Tired From His Late Night Out

KeeKee has a girlfriend, and she stops over sometimes and eats with him. When she is here, he is very much of a gentleman and lets her eat first. This is so unbelievable to us----since he covers the bowl with his body---- when we get near his food while he is eating. He has his own personality, but he loves us. My friend once told me that cats love the one who feeds them. And, that makes sense to me. Maybe I missed something in the translation.

Grooming KeeKee

KeeKee loves to roll in the white sand and leaves, so every day, I brush him off and clean his ears. He even lets me give him a bath of sorts, sometimes, and it is when he is in the mood. He likes to eat dry cat food. I researched Pet Food and I came to the conclusion, dry is the best. I check him every day for ticks because he loves the outdoors, and lives in it most of the time. He is the King of our hearts.

Does Your Pet(s) Love and Trust You?

You will know in a very short time if you and your pets see eye to eye. My Pomeranian and I bonded one second after I held him. He was such a bundle of furry love, waiting for me to get home every day from work.

I purchased Sweetie from a Pet Shop and took him to the Veterinarian for a complete check-up. He was eight (8) weeks old, and only weighed two pounds. The fact that he weighed only two pounds bothered me. However, the Veterinarian would not say one way or the other, if this was good or bad. I soon employed another Veterinarian nearer to my home because I worked out -of- town in the opposite direction of the first Veterinarian.

From the very first we hand fed Sweetie and spoiled him past the rotten stage. Sweetie Angel is ours and we love him, and we take excellent care of him and KeeKee. Making sure they go to the doctor twice a year for a checkup, and Sweetie every other month for his nails to be clipped. And his teeth cleaned when needed.

He's groomed every two months by a professional and she does everything from trimming, washing twice, nails and ears. I appreciate her very much for her super job of taking care of my baby.

Sweetie weighs 12 1/2 pounds now and is very muscled up and strong. We are so lucky to have a beautiful healthy Pom.

KeeKee On The Back Porch Next To His Scatching Post

KeeKee likes to sit on the end of the porch to watch the wild birds as they eat and drink and take a quick bath in the birdbath. He watches as the Redbirds (Cardinals) Doves, (Mourning Doves) and Turtle Doves, Sparrows, Chick-a-Dees, Blue Jays, Black Birds eat and drink their fill. And sometimes Baby Crow comes for a slice of bread. We have so many we take care of, and we love them all.

Grooming Sweetie

Anyone, who owns a Pomeranian is aware they need a lot of care, but they are worth every second. I groomed him, and I learned how from books and YouTube. I do not however, clip his nails myself because I nipped him once and I said never again.

I use Johnson's Baby Shampoo to wash him, and I let him air dry. When he is completely dry, I comb him with two different fur combs. I take my time, so I do not hurt him because the fur is under all his hair.

I cut and trim his hair, so he is more comfortable in the summertime, in Florida. I clean his eyes and ears, and he is not too crazy about his ears being touched---but I do it anyway. And I gave him medicine from his veterinarian, when he needs it. I brush and comb him every day, as well as KeeKee.

I did all the above for Sweetie until I broke my leg and my doctor said I needed to stay in bed for almost three-months. I could not take care of him, but I found a wonderful groomer and she is now the one who grooms him. He is much happier going to her.

KeeKee's Mother

KeeKee's mother left him after she gave birth behind our toolshed. I could not believe it when I heard him crying just outside my kitchen window. His eyes had just opened, and he was hungry. All I had to give him was Tuna Fish, and I mashed it up in stewed carrots and gave him warm milk in a small bowl. That little KeeKee was so hungry, he ate and drank everything. After that I fed him three times a day. And he has matured into a big Kitty.

My Pets

I just returned from the Dr. Bullock's office, he is Sweetie Angel's Veterinarian, and Sweetie is so proud of himself. All his test results were good. And, while we were there he got his nails clipped. I have this done every few months.

So, all Sweetie has to have in the near future is have his teeth cleaned, and a small mole taken off his bottom eyelids.

I feel so much better after each visit.

Sweetie's Night-Night Toy

When Sweetie wants to take a nap, he takes his donut toy in his mouth and tells everyone night-night. And, then he prances in his special walk that switches his little tail like a fancy fan and leaves the room for his bed.

He does not like it when I put his toys in his box. I clean up after he has played with them, or I could not walk in my computer room. Since I had to toss one of his toys, he watches ever move I make when I am putting his toys to bed in their basket.

He is so smart, he never forgets anything, and lets you know by his looks. I swear he's reincarnated and was once a human. But I am sure all animal lovers feel this way.

I just know one thing for sure and certain my Sweetie Angel's well-loved, and we're blessed to have him.

Update: Sweetie Angel went to Heaven March 5, 2016. I miss him so much.

My Precious Sweetie Angel

My Sweetie Angel died March 12th 2016 from Kidney Failure. He was almost 13 years old. I will always miss him--it is even difficult for me to be on this page.

Bobbi.....Please my friend, never think you cannot vent when it feels appropriate. I know what you've been through honey and can truly feel for you. We have friends to talk to when things get to be so overwhelming. What would we do without shoulders to lean on? I'm here for you any time, Bobbi. 2017 is going to be a better year for all of us, I just know it. Keep that beautiful smile! Hugs, Paula

Barbara Purvis Hunter (author) from Florida on April 18, 2017:

Hi Paula,

I know how you feel--my Sweetie Angel passed away last year six months before my husband passed away. I just do not have the heart to love another pet--I still cry about it. My Darling husband is without pain now--so I have mixed feelings--I am happy he no longer suffers, but sad he is gone. I said no more husbands and no more pets. It hurts too much.

Sorry to vent Paula--you will probably never write again.

I have not started writing on HubPages again--it looks like a lot of changes happened while I was away.

I am praying that 2017 will be a better year for me and everyone on HubPages.

You take care of yourself,

Bobbi Purvis

Bobbi...You lovely lady, where have you been? Or, have I been lost in space? I see this is one of your older hubs but of course a great one!

I'm down to one lonely senior citizen dog, my "Toby." He still keeps me company and I dread the day he leaves me. I have always had 2 dogs and 2 cats but as they pass and I go through the grief, I just don't feel I can handle that anymore.

There are times I have to force myself to drive on past the Kitten shelter because I miss my babies.

Good to see you Bobbi. Hope all is well with you! Hugs, Paula

Hi clivewilliams,

Life would be dull without our family members with four feet. Thanks for the visit--and have a wonderful April.

Pets are always wonderful. I have two dogs. Nica and Venom. Nice hub

Barbara Purvis Hunter (author) from Florida on September 23, 2012:

Bless her sweet heart---I have to tell you---I feel Hell is not hot enough for people who abuse animals and tie them outside. Try rolling in on the ground and run after it to show her it will not hurt her.

Only your love will win her over---she sounds so beautiful.

Bobbi, our dog not only doesn't catch a ball but the only time I tried to throw one for her she looked like I was going to throw it at her. Before she was rescued she hae been tied outside and I think kids might have teased her. She is attractive with her blue eyes, and people are always commenting on her when we walk.

Barbara Purvis Hunter (author) from Florida on September 22, 2012:

I am honored for your visit. Does your husky like to play with catching a ball? I bet your dog is beautiful. Thankyou so much for your visit and comment. I cannot wait to read more of your work. Have a great Sunday.

Pets do involve us. W have a husky that we got from a rescue group. In some ways I am still working at getting her trust. I wish she had the involvement in toys that your dog has. It is frustrating to find things to give her activity.

Barbara Purvis Hunter (author) from Florida on September 06, 2012:

Thank you, it is raining tomorrow but I will smile anyway.

HubTub on September 06, 2012:

My pleasure, Bobbi. Wishing you a cheery week and weekend as well!

Barbara Purvis Hunter (author) from Florida on September 06, 2012:

Thank you so much for your visit. I believe that is one of the best comments I have received. I thank you for sharing it.

You have a great day and a great weekend.

I don' know what I would do without my pets. They are my spoiled rotten children, and rightfully so. The names of your pets struck a chord with me. My grandmother's nickname was Sweetie, who had a cat named KiKiKi. When my mom lived in Florida, she owned a Pomeranian.

I thoroughly enjoyed your hub and your cute photos. Voted up + more!

Barbara Purvis Hunter (author) from Florida on May 13, 2012:

Thank you so much for the visit, and I appreciate your comments. Yes, Sweetie Angel is a sweetie and he is so smart. I always said if he could talk I would sent him to work for me.LOL

Thanks again,

Your Hub Friend,

Bobbi, I enjoyed this hub and it was made all the nicer for your personal photos. They are both cuties, though I am not a cat fan to be honest. Your little Pom looks like a little sweetheart.

Barbara Purvis Hunter (author) from Florida on February 17, 2012:

Thank you for the comment. And I wish your Amy all the very best. You are on my list to read some of your hubs.

I just get so busy with family, until I have to make lists.

Thanks again for reading my hub.

FloraBreenRobison on February 17, 2012:

Glad to hear Sweetie Angel is doing well. I cherish my Amy.
