  • The Best way to celebrate National Dog Day is by adopting a dog. Avoid buying dogs from pet shops. Buying pets from shops may create black marketing. You can use The Shelter Pet Project to search for pets.
  • You can also take care of some street dogs by giving food to them daily or you can take a dog from the rescue Center to give good care and love.
  • You can take your dog for a walk. Most existing dog owners will already know this but new owners make a note of it. You can take your dog for a walk in the evening or morning.
  • All people can not treat dogs in their homes because of some reasons. These people can find organisations or institutions which take care of helpless dogs and donate money or help them in work.
  • If you have time you can arrange a party and celebrate this day. Some families celebrate this day as the dog's birthday.
  • You can also post your Dogs and your selfie on social media with good quotes to encourage people to celebrate this day.
  • If you have a dog then you can give a hug to the dog this may help you to understand your dog even better and make the dog feel comfortable.

Path of International Dog Day - History

On August 26 colleen's family adopted a dog named Sheltie from a local animal shelter when he was 10 years old. So This day is celebrated on August 26. Colleen Paige was Animal Welfare Advocate, Pet Lifestyle Expert, Dog Trainer, Conservationist, and an Author. He was also the founder of National Wildlife Day, National Mutt Day, National Puppy Day, and National Cat day. On 2013 New York State Legislation officially adopted National Dog Day.

The awareness about this day was spread to the world by the Human Society of The United States and West Coast Labrador Retriever Rescue and some of the rescue partners. These organizations spread awareness and encouraged people to adopt dogs from adoption centers instead of buying them from pet shops.

This day gradually got the attention of the media which helped to spread to the world. Since 2004, one million dogs have been saved through adoption in the United States.

Remember and Give it Back

Some dog owners make dogs homeless because they can not manage them. Dogs help human society in many ways whether it may be by finding bombs or drugs. Most of these Dogs get good care because humans need them. Some of the dog breeds will not get good care. Only high-class breeds are treated well remaining breeds will go through a lot of problems. Some of the dogs are killed by poisoning.

In recent years according to statistics 34 Percent of Households own at least one dog in the United Kingdom. Which a good thing, this trend may grow because in 2020 which is the tough situation of the pandemic year 8 Percent of dog owners reported they became first-time pet owners in November. In 2020 people gave food to street dogs this shows that humanity is still existing.
