Recipe for the Best Homemade Dog Treats

This article will teach you how to make the best dog treats for your pets. I have three homemade dog treat recipes to share with you that I make for my Yorkshire Terrier, Lexie. She loves homemade peanut butter and coconut oil treats the most. Healthy food is one of the best things we can do for our dogs.

Peanut Butter Dog Treat Recipe

This is a dog biscuit that you can cook to be soft or crunchy to suit your dog's taste. The biscuits stay fresh in the fridge for three weeks if stored in an airtight container. They are ideal for making in bulk because they also freeze very well for up to six months.

I use whole wheat brown flour in this recipe. You can substitute it for white all-purpose flour depending on your own dog's dietary needs. The ingredients are for one large tray of dog treats. Once you have cooked these and know that your dog loves them, you can double or treble the amount of ingredients to allow you to freeze some of them.

Step 2

  1. Add the peanut butter to the bowl and mix thoroughly into the flour and oats.
  2. It will be sticky so add a small amount of flour to knead it into a dough.
  3. Prepare a baking tin by spreading a small amount of flour onto it.
  4. Add the dog biscuit dough to the tray and roll out to about ¼ inch thickness.
  5. Using a knife or a pizza cutter, make small indents into the dough, going up and then across it. This will mark out the squares for you and make it easier when you go to separate them after they have cooked.

  2. They will be cooked now but if your dog prefers them to be extra crunchy, then leave them in for another 10 minutes.
  3. Place the baking tray on a board and leave to cool.
  4. Use a knife or pizza cutter to cut the peanut butter biscuits into small squares.
  5. When completely cold, place them in a container and seal tightly.
  6. Store in the fridge for up to three weeks. Freeze in the freezer for up to six months.

Loving the photographs of the dog. Great article. They look simple and easy to make and I am sure they turn out much cheaper in the end as well as know exactly what is in them
