A Yellow-Naped Amazon
Yellow-naped Amazon parrots are predominantly green birds with some blue and red appearing on their wings or head. Once it matures, the bird has golden feathers on the back of its neck or nape – thus its name. Yellow-naped Amazons are actually originally from southern Mexico and Central America.
Excellent fliers in the wild, when Yellow-named Amazons are kept in homes they tend to get lazy. These birds are talented talkers and are considered one of the best spoken of all pet parrots. Amazons can learn many words and phrases and will often communicate with their owners with words.
Although not as cuddly as cockatoos, the Yellow-naped Amazon will show affection to its owner or others she trusts. Yellow-napes can bond tightly with their owners sometimes growing jealous of people in their owner's life.

That's really interesting that you had a Yellow-nape who named himself. Our yellow-nape is named Jinx.

Indeed, this is a lovely bird. However, it sometimes would take me a while to name my animal friend. I had one once choose his own. I must admire these birds from afar, and will one day capture them in natural habitat.

Thank you. The reainforest is pretty awe-inspiring. I've had my Yellow-nape for 20 years. She talks and has a personality all her own. Too bad she's never liked my husband.
Ann1Az2 from Orange, Texas on October 14, 2014:
I love parrots. I used to have an Eclectus that talked. She was beautiful, too. The rainforest must be a wonderful place. Voted up and interesting.

A nice introduction into this parrot. I've never heard of this particular breed. I own a cockatiel who says a few words.
Voted up, useful, and interesting.
