How Old is Your Dog?
Why Owners Want a Dog Health Monitor
Owners can consider a dog health monitor at various stages in their dog's life. Some people prefer a dog monitor as an important tool in learning about their new puppy. (PS. They also make a great gift for new owners - so if your friend gets a dog, consider a FitBark). Many new owners constantly have questions about how much exercise is appropriate for their puppy and how much to feed their new arrival.
Fitbark helps solve exercise and feeding questions by providing numerical results that are breed, age and weight specific. Getting these results gives owners reassurance and confidence that they are doing great with their new puppy. Using FitBark helps owners enjoy getting to bond with their dogs instead of worrying if their are pet-parenting well enough. Using the unique points system "bark-points" daily scores are provided to give owners 24 hour feedback they can use to track holistic success.
Owners of senior dogs also enjoy using FitBark to track mobility issues and manage pain control, and common chronic conditions. The FitBark App settings provides monitoring for specific health conditions such as allergies, cancers, diabetes, heart disease and even more! Again, using the unique, "bark points" system, owners of senior dogs know what range their aging dog should aim for; on a daily basis. A change in "bark points" can indicate a new issue or a change in their current health condition. FitBark is an extra helping hand to assist owners of senior dogs to manage their dog's complex health issues at home.
What You Get With a FitBark 2 Starter Kit
His FitBark is a great way of measuring how well he feels, because he's more active when he doesn't have pain! I've noticed a gradual increase in his activity in the last week! I can also see that he is sleeping better, again probably because of a lack of discomfort!

You will need to have a basic neck collar for your dog. The FitBark 2 comes with several zap-straps in the Starter Kit and you will use 2 of these to secure the FitBark device to a collar of your choice.

Setting Up Your Fitbark Profile
Next, you are going to connect the FitBark device to the charging cable and plug that into a powered USB port to charge. You will note a series of fast flashing lights - this is when FitBark is ready to accept a new profile set up for your dog. The flashing light will slow down after a few seconds, so make sure you are quick to "tap" "create dog profile".
If you miss it the first time, like I did, you will have to unplug the device and plug it back in to restart. Coordinating the fast flashing light to create the dog's profile I found was the hardest part. It's easy from here on after. Watch my video below for full set up details and walk through.

Puppies, Adult Dogs and Aging Dogs All Benefit
In my video above, I introduce 2 of my friends who have used and love the Fitbark 2! It's a great example of how diverse the technology is. One example, Chewy is a 9 month old Shih Tzu. His pet-parents are still learning what he needs. They are still establishing a routine. They benefit from getting feedback and encouragement for Chewy's daily goals.
The second example, is Raleen's 13 year old Lhasa Apso, Jack. He is aging and recently suffered from severe infection requiring a procedure at the veterinarian to drain an abscess. Jack was recovering at home on antibiotics and Raleen found the results encouraging as he recovered and progressed from less than his usual to eventually back to his average daily achievements. It was an important tool for decision making regarding Jack's pain management and healing.
How Healthy Is Your Dog?
FitBark is part of an exciting new force in science, the generation of big datasets that can take us closer to the truth about the relationship between health and lifestyle. FitBark can be used to monitor trends in the daily behaviour of pet dogs, and potentially, to detect disease and changes in well-being at a very early stage.
