Some tips and pointers to consider if your thinking about using Dog hair Dye.

Make sure the brand you choose is non toxic and read reviews before you press buy.

As you would your own hair do a test, to make sure there are no allergic reactions. This would work in the same fashion as if you was doing it to yourself take a small patch and apply the product wait for a couple of hours and check for redness or swelling.

Avoid contact around sensitive areas for example your dogs eyes, if by accident you do get some in a sensitive area make sure you flush thoroughly with water

Make sure you use protective gloves when applying the Dog hair dye.

Ensure you either do this outside or place down an old sheet.

Be sure on the design you have chose before you apply to your doggies fur.

Dog Hair Dye Kit

A good place to start would be to purchase the Dog Hair dye kit from amazon, the kit consists of 14 pieces, 4 long banana style hair clips, 2 short clips and 2 large clips a mixing bowl and 4 multi use tools! The clips can be used for holding back the dog hair for more accurate and detailed results. So if your wanting to be really creative and accurate this is a must have!

Dog Hair Dye Stencils

There are lots of different stencils available also from amazon, giving you that edge on the detail of your design and creativity, They come in packs of ten and can be used as a stencil or a sticker giving two ways to create your design. They can punch out the stencils and use the frames to shape the hair dye as you are applying it or you can peel of the sticker attach them to your dog and use the hair dye around this.

Dog Hair Dye Products

I would seriously recommend Top Performance as a brand they so far have fifteen bright, fun shades to select from 100% Non toxic and will last you up to 6 washes. CTFA approved, and totally safe for dogs over 12 weeks old.

While applying this Dog Hair dye make sure you have old towels around as this process can be quite messy. Wash your dog first and massage the dog hair dye into the fur where you would like to apply, remember to follow the instructions if you are using stencils and being really creative. I would recommend using latex gloves. Leave her somewhere warm for about 10 minutes, then add a leave-in conditioner to the dogs fur. A good tip for if you get any on your floor, after the dog is out of the way use some bleach this should get it up and out straight away. Below is an example video of a dog having it's hair dyed, there are literally hundreds out there so you can follow them step by step.

I had no idea that you could get hair dye for you dog!

The comment in your last paragraph about getting a top brand product is something I'd totally stand by. If I wouldn't skimp on dye for myself, I certainly wouldn't do it for my dog.

Having said that, I don't know if I would have the patience to spray the dog like a tiger in your photo above!

I can see the appeal - especially the tiger dog - it's sort of mind blowing! I can imagine hundreds of people walking into lamp posts unable to take their eyes of it as you walked him down the street!

I know what you mean, Its probably not something that I would do all the time. I have a friend who has done her dog, and there wasn't any problems with other dogs, as they seem to work on scent, However you do make a valid point. I would probably only dye my dogs hair once a year or something! Thanks for reading :P

interesting but I can't make my mind up about it. I wonder what other dogs think of hair dyed dogs. I know they can't see in colour, but the elaborate pattern might confuse them.
