Dog ate stuffing
Dog eats bed
HelP!!!!! On wednesday I get a call at work from my hubby that "something is wrong with the Dog!" Apparently she had chewed a hole in her dog bed and ate a bunch of stuffing. She had also been trying to eat sticks, grass etc. When this happens that means that she has an upset stomach. When i get home from work she had vomitted some stuffing. GREAT!!!! I thought. I made her some ground beef and rice and gave her about 3/4 cup. She ate it. On thursday she actually went to the vet for a checkup and did not have a temp or anything. She got her yearly shots and she was on her way. She had some loose stools on thursday and vomitted more stuffing 2 times. She was drinking but not too interested in eating. ON friday. She did not have any Bowel movements and was able to eat a scrambled egg. On Saturday i woke up to find some more vomit with more stuffing in it. I made her 2 scrambled eggs which she eventually ate but it took a while. she ate some ground beef and rice later in the day. No vomitting but also no poop. So here we are on saturday and she has not pooped since thursday and she has not really eaten much. On sunday she ate some more ground beef and rice and began to have bowel movements. Soft at first then liquid. I thought we had turned a corner. She was eating a little and was pooping. Then As I take her out again as I thought she might have to poop again. She had a third loose poop of the day and then vomitted 2 times. The first vomit was undigested egg, hamburg and rice, the second was more stuffing. What do I do at this point.

Hi Murphyd, how is your dog? Did they have to do any surgery to remove the stuffing?

Have to admit I would be too after all that excitement. Glad she is going to be fine! Nice to have a happy outcome - I have no doubt she will regain her appetite too. Best wishes!

Well The old girl is home now. The vet was able to remove almost all of the stuffing. Only small pieces remain and those will pass on their own. Luckily none of the filling got into her intestine. Now the issue will be getting her to eat again. She is a bit lethargic but I can tell she is happy to be home.

Thanks for the update. I was truly concerned about her when I read your Hub. You are fortunate that none of the bedding made its way into the intestinal tract, as well. Hopefully she will be feeling better in no time! You'll have to write a Hub as to her ordeal and treatment - if anything it will be cathartic (definitely no pun intended here) for you after this stressful event.

We took her in and her belly is full of filling from the bed! She is now awaiting second xray so that they can attempt to scope her! Thanks for the advice.

Yes, better to be safe than sorry. Take her to the vet!

You need to take her in. If your vet has an emergency number, call! If there is an emergency vet facility take her. She definitely needs attention - I have a feeling they will do x-rays to determine how much is still in her, as well as where the blockage is. Get her to a facility sooner than later!
