These were developed by people of a Vanjara tribe, who keep moving from place to place with their family, herd groups of sheep and goats and lived in makeshift tents. These groups of people were called "caravan", from which these dogs got their name "Caravan Hounds". Most of the people believe that when Pathans, Afghans, Arabs and Persians came to India during the Mughal period, they brought Arabian Saluki and Tazi breed dogs with them And the Caravan Hound is a descendant of those dogs.
