Taking Care of Pets

Taking care of pets is like taking care of a child, I want the very best for my dogs. The relationship between me and my dogs are beneficial to each of us. Let me give you a few sound reasons why I take care of dogs:

  1. The dog will live longer.
  2. In an animal shelter the dog may get euthanize.
  3. The wild provides nothing for an alone, frightened dog.

Not saying that I'm lonely, but a pet can provide companionship and love. They are affectionate and live to please their owners. They are better than a friend, they are loyal to their owners only! You can tell them anything and it will not be repeated.

  • When you walk your dog, you're happy and you stay in shape. Walking is both good for the dog as well as the spare tires around the waist. Not only this, but the fact is, you will become a more responsible person. Having any kind of pet comes responsibility.
  • Having a dog around is good therapy as well. Some doctors have prescribed a dog instead of medicine for a child with autism or some other behavior problems. It's hard to explain but when a person can't sleep, having a pet helps with that as well.
  • Now lets look at security for instance. Depending on the breed, some dogs provide the best security money can buy. I know, because I adopted a retired K-9 Police Officer, she was worth her weight in gold! I've owned Pit Bulls too and believe me, an intruder would think twice before entering onto my property.
  • The last thing but certainly not the least, a pet can save your life! There are dogs trained to sense a medical problem such as a heart attack. What about the dog that smells smoke and wakes up his owner? A dog can smell the smoke long before a human can. Okay, life saving event!

So all I'm saying is, taking care of pets is beneficial to the owner and to the pet.

Bama, My Baby American PitBull Terrier

Bama is the last dog I will ever own. Right now she is two years old and I believe she has a long life in front of her. At the time of this writing, I'm 70. Bama was six weeks old when she was given to me. She was born February 1, 2019. My husband and I were at the flea market and met a retired military couple that were selling the pups.

If you've read any of my dog articles, then you know I love dogs. Well, my Eragon had passed about 2 years when I saw the pups. I picked up one and it just whined and cried out. I figured that wasn't the one, when all of a sudden this little cutie came from under the liter licking my hand. I picked her up and she just kissed my face all over.

As I was holding her, I began to cry. The owner of the pups asked what was the matter and I told her what had happened to Eragon. This little pup I was holding was identical to Eragon, like a reincarnation of him. She told me I could have the pup. She said, "I feel this pup will be going to the best home she will ever have".

Bama Goes To Orlando, Florida

This was my family's first trip to Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida and Bama went too! She couldn't go inside the park itself but she still had a ball! When I booked the trip, I was able to rent a scooter for the duration of the trip. A little leg problems when walking. Bama got to ride with me on the scooter, she loved the scooter.

Well readers, Bama and I rode down to the hotel office to inquire about transportation so we wouldn't have to do a lot of driving. The agents at the front desk just took over my baby! They had her all on the counter and she was giving away my kisses and hugs and I'm like, wait a minute! You can't take my baby. That was funny to them but hey, I was serious.

I think this is really when Bama got spoiled. She got clothes, everything she wanted to eat and drink. She had the luxury of a queen size bed with all sorts of toys and things that made noises. After she was introduced to the front desk, they had puppy snacks for her every time they saw her.

She even got a bathing suit, but I never meant for her to get in the pool. There were kids in the poo area and when they saw her, they wanted to play with Bama. I had no idea they would put her in the pool. I turned my head for a moment and that's all it took. Those kids put her in the pool and I was frantic that the hotel management was going to put us out of the hotel. There was a 'No Pets' sign in the the pool area. Oh my!

We had a good time, Bama just couldn't go inside the Universal Studios park. It was okay, she still had a marvelous time!

Done Three Score and Ten

None of us know when our name will be called from the heavenly roll.Three score and ten is all we're promised and I've seen and met that number. Bama is young in human years but she's a teenager in dog years, fourteen. Well, she's the last dog I'll own. Living past her will be a lot to bare, as I have buried my share of companions. I'm not saying I'm ready to kick the bucket, I have a bucket list to finish and I'm going to see it completed.

Bama and Squeaky are all the animals that I have left. Squeaky is my Lab, my queen. She's up in age with a little medical issues but she's a real trooper. Her vet advised an aspirin a day will help her pain, arthritis. We have to help her get into whatever vehicle we're going to ride in but that's fine too. We love Squeaky very much and we'll do whatever it takes so she can ride with us.

We have to keep the two separated because Bama is aggressive and will fight Squeaky for attention. She doesn't know that she doesn't have to do that, there's enough love for the both of them. Squeaky is a big dog and age has taken the teeth that are between the k-9 teeth. Bama on the other hand is a smaller, aggressive dog. My back yard is fenced in and separated in half with Bama on one side and Squeaky on the other.

My Dogs Say

.“Dogs are not your whole life, but they make our lives whole.”

. “A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself.”

.“Such short little lives our pets have to spend with us, and they spend most of it waiting for us to come home each day.”

.“If you want a friend in Washington, get a dog.”

Bama's Toys and Hygiene

Her favorite toy is a ball but she''ll make a toy out of anything. She likes the balls with spikes on them. I think it feels good to her gums but she has a fit when I try to brush her teeth. She doesn't like to get her teeth brushed. She doesn't mind so much to get her face washed and nose cleaned. She's a wet nose dog! She loves water and will get in the shower when she hears the water running. We have to keep her out of the bathroom when we're showering because she'll join us. When it's her bath time, we have no problem getting her to take a bath.
