Larkin makes it evident in his poems that the proletariat are in a self-inflicting cycle of oppression, as they are deluded into believing that purchasing luxurious and expensive items will allow them to ascend the social hierarchy, however this in fact enforces their lowly position in society.
Literary canonical texts must contain aesthetics, art and beauty, and be capable of altering the reader's moral perception. From analysing all of these components in Anthony Burgess' novel, I believe it does deserve to be in the literary canon due to its intelligent use of Nadsat and moral dilemmas.
