Vintage Halloween Decorations
Vintage Halloween Decorations - Vintage Style is Hot
One very popular trend right now is Vintage Halloween Decorations! Since I love all things vintage, this trend has caught my eye. I started looking around to see what was available and was happily surprised at the new, old style as well as actual old items available.
Tissue paper poms and honeycombs, Happy Halloween pennant banners, ceramic figurines, tin signs -- all these and more are readily available. You can also use your own version of once loved items and make your own decorations for a party (like this vintage Halloween dessert table I made).
I wanted to show you some of what I found. Maybe you'll love it too and change up the way you decorate this All Hallows Eve season!

About Vintage Halloween Decorations
Halloween History
During the 1920s, Halloween came into it's own as a more acceptably celebrated holiday. Back then it was more for adults. Parties were held where the guests gathered to play card and table games like mahjong and bridge and decorations were set about the room and front entrance to give it a party atmosphere. Game winners received prizes like lanterns, candy and noisemakers to take home.
By the 1930s Halloween was considered to be a holiday for children and trick or treating was widespread in the USA. Since modern Halloween has its' beginnings from Pagan beliefs, All Saints Day and other religious or sect teachings, superstitions were always a big part of the decorations. Black cats, devils, ghosts and owls have long since been associated with Halloween. Another big influence on Halloween decorations was the fact that it is celebrated in the fall of the year. Autumnal influences like scarecrows, pumpkins, and bails of hay have all been used in Halloween decorations for decades.
Whether you prefer a scary Halloween (gory came along in later years) or a fun, more autumnal Halloween, you can use vintage Halloween decorations or vintage style Halloween decorations to spruce up your home!

Die Cuts & Tissue in a Vintage Style
Back in the day, most party and holiday decorations were made of paper. Each year, they would be lovingly wrapped and stored for the next season.
Honeycomb tissue, combination tissue paper and cardstock as well as card stock paper décor was what was available. They were fragile and you had to be careful handling them.
Today, we have much more hearty versions of a lot of this décor but companies have learned we value tradition and the good ole days! They are now replicating a lot of the same styles out of more robust materials.
